I think that people using that real heavy technicl shit can’t really trade. You need to have that feeling of a good trade coming from your gut. It feels differently.
Here’s the funny thing and no disrespect meant to fly who i think is an excellent trader.
The past month or so I thought he was trading by over-intellectualizing trades like putting big ideas on the economy etc. into trade ideas.
Trading is far simpler than that. Shit is either going up or down and it’s what you see in the narrow sense that really counts. Sometimes the information comes piece meal though and you need to put all that shit together like a puzzle, however once it hits you, you know it’s the right trade.
The bank trade recently was a great example of that. The Giethner plan was elaborated, then came news/rumor of the banks passing the stress test and then finally the news of the WFC result. That was a huge gimme trade and there was no way you could lose money on it.
Fly’s idea on the semis seems to be an excellent well thought out trade idea and it was real nice to see the puzzle being put together.
I’m not sure where all those technicals like fibs etc come into this. That’s my point.

I have been watching folks use chartology for years and, to me, it seems a bit of hand waving but, I notice a lot of very good traders (Danny, Wood, CA, Gio) see patterns in them.
I try to always make sure the numbers back up what I might eyeball. Case in point was the GOOG system which started by something that looked like an edge on Z’s chart the other day.

Well tea leaves reading isn’t, however I have to admit that what the former math prof at Renaissance Capital does fit into it.
Look, C, most successful trading isn’t actually about picking market direction as i think that is the easier part. Seeing a trend on a chart and trading accordingly is the easy part. The real hard freaking part is money management. So i guess as long as people apply proper money management skills trade selection methods applied consistently will turn out a pretty ok trader.
If I get 50% of my trades right, I consider I’m doing well. However there won’t be one loser that gets me into trouble in terms of losing all my capital. That will never happen.
There are plenty of times I stay out of a trade simply because I don’t see the risk reward which at least has to give me 3:1.
For instance I think the Euro is going to go lower against the Dollar. However i think the real stop is around 1.3750 which is too far away.
