the program doesn’t provide the leverage he used (10-1) from the FED on the packaged security assets… if you’re buying the packaged stuff, you only get 1-1 from the gov’t…
the only way to get the “between 6-1 and 12-1” leverage is to buy the actual underlying loan…

Andrew Forrest, the mining magnate who briefly topped Australia’s billionaire’s list during the commodities boom, could be disqualified as a company director if the country’s securities regulator succeeds with a court case that begins in Perth on Monday.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission is pursuing Mr Forrest and Fortescue Metals, the company he founded in 2002 that is now the country’s third biggest iron ore producer, for allegedly misleading the stock market over announcements relating to “binding” agreements with China Railway Engineering Corp and China Metallurgical.
ASIC alleges these were only agreements to discuss possible deals and that Fortescue and Mr Forrest should have made that clear to the market.
Mr Forrest and Fortescue face fines of A$4.4 and A$6m respectively. The financial penalties, however, are far less important to Mr Forrest than director disqualification which would force him to step down as Fortescue chief executive. Mr Forrest has a 32 per cent stake in Fortescue and is also chairman of Poseidon Nickel.

Someone asked if I’m short anything…
Besides selling some triples last night (but not all of them), I am short only SLW (sold the calls against my position for a short term reap), and RGC, as of this morning, which I also like long term, but think it’s bumping up against the long term downtrend line from it’s peak back in March April of ’08.
