My year end target is 1625. I guess that’s a mini meltup.
Earnings growth will suck until 4Q, so I’m expecting the marke to be driven by the massive liquidity unleashed by the FED and Congress which will cause multiple expansion. My biggest fear isn’t credit or financial collapse or any of the other shit everyone has been obsessed with for the past year. That’s been over-analyzed to death and the Big Swinging Dicks who pull the strings have decided they think they understand the worst case scenario and have concluded the worst is over and it’s ok to own stocks, IMO.
What I’m concerned most about is that people start to worry that all the actions taken by FED and Congress to save the economy/markets will push inflation expectations higher and long rates will rise significantly. I think (hope) the economy will be weak enough to prevent inflationary expecations from building until ’09, but to me a sharp rise in long rates is the biggest risk that could stop the multiple expansion in its tracks.

i agree and that’s also my concern, however, i hope and believe that the ongoing process of deleveraging will keep a lid on expectations and actual inflation, and will result in an economy expanding at potential. in addition, i believe that the productivity miracle of the past decade is not yet complete.
