I’ve been patiently holding a ridiculous amount of stock, while holding in countless others, waiting for the story to pan out.
For more than a year, I’ve been told: “MVIS is going to be double digits. They will change the way people use their handheld devices.” Yet, I sit here looking at my stupid monitor, and the stock is mid 4’s.
For the most part, the CFO of MVIS, Jeff Wilson, torpedoed the investor confidence CEO Alex Tokman had rebuilt for more than a year—by selling a bullshit 40,000 shares @ $4.70.
In hindsight, selling at $4.70 was a good idea.
Fuck you very much Jeff Wilson.
Now what?
Well, this is the year the proverbial ball starts rolling for the company. If everything stays on track, the company should start selling Picop products during Christmas of ’08. If so, there is no way the stock remains in the 4’s.
Conservatively, using the numbers projected by several analysts, the stock should be trading, at a minimum, $8—without a major ramp. Once MVIS gets their paws into [[MOT]] or Samsung cellphones, I suspect the stock will trade north of $15.
However, keep in mind, all of this depends on the company (through proxy) being able to mass produce green lasers, which could be very expensive. That’s the kicker.
Before I make any big decisions, I want to see the progress of their R&D, displayed at CES. I know a few people who will be inside the MVIS presentation. I’ll be sure to pass along some of their notes.

Investor confidence is lagging due to the fucking lengthy ramp up (with little in the way of news.) Stock price is more likely hinged to investor impatience… ten years of R&D! You can only bang the ketchup bottle so many times before you get the knife. I think patience though is soon to pay off… mass-produced green lasers will happen. (the laser is going to be the engine for a great many things for years to come.) I’m with you fly… sizable investment, fucktarded trading bullshit. But I do think by the end of this year, we finally will hit double digits… if not sooner. In the meantime, have a lengthy blunt and cruise through brooklyn slowly in your el camino.
I read their news release today and my take is they don’t know their business very well or think investors like promotional vaguely worded smoke being blown up their ass. Warms the cockles of my heart/colon really. I don’t give a flying fuck (as opposed to regular fuck) if they signed another “OEM” deal. What does that mean to the business? Lots of companies get OEM deals that amount to nothing unless it is well defined up front. Wow another worthless piece of contractual paper used to promote a stock and not place a realistic value on the company.
They need to be able to communicate the value of the agreement or why buy the stock. I agree the technology looks very cool even groundbreaking (for now), but if you can’t quantify the impact it is likely worth fuck all. What does it mean in terms of dollars even potential dollars (USD$1 – USD$999B)??? Dumb Shits!!!
I would buy if I thought there was value in this, but can’t tell. Based on the reaction of the stock (or lack thereof) I think it is overpriced.

Producing the green lasers is only part of the battle.
I’m worried more about the acceptability of the picture quality and brightness. Everyone likes smaller, lighter, and lower power consumption, but display quality has to be “good enough”.
Bearing in mind that I’m no cellphone power user (I’ve been using one with a broken screen for the past 10 months), I don’t see the pico projecter going into a cellphone in the next decade, if ever, with the possible exception of a blocky pda/wifi/phone device for the people who like to have everything in one unit.
If bluetooth has the bandwidth for the video signal, it makes far more sense to keep the projector standalone.

I’ve waited 6 years for the color eyewear to develop and while I think the projector will be wildly popular it is not how MVIS will make a name for itself.
Read this post from 4 years ago and tell me MVIS won’t make this happen. 2009 might be a bit optimistic but most of the technology they already have (will we see this ‘soon’??).

Tech changes very fast. People’s behavior changes slower. People’s bodies change verrry slowly (excluding the increase in mass over time).
A cell phone is a crappy projector platform, and the changes you’d have to make to it to improve it as a projector platform make it less useful as a cell phone.
I’m not speculating about what is technically achievable, but, rather, what will be attractive enough to enough people to be a viable product. I don’t happen to think that a cellphone-embedded projector is a winner compared to alternative ways of delivering the projector capability.

That comment from the GHM COO about the spending cycle is quite a bit more optimistic than what GHM was saying earlier this year. I believe that they were talking about the cycle extending 18-24 months, which would have been through end-2008 to mid-2009 at the time.
Now he’s talking about another 36 months from this point.
My take is that the previous 18-24 months guidance was very solid and there has been improvement from that point, but going out 36 months from today is venturing beyond the solid point into speculative territory.
I’d been holding $13.60 shares of GHM for some time before selling at $40 earlier this year – just a few weeks before GHM began rocketing up to the $70s. I’d buy again at the current level.
