Over The Hump

920 has been a rough level to surpass in the last few weeks. Could we get it done in the first trading day of ’09? I think I hear the bears loading their ammo .

Here’s a cool screen I picked up from someone over at stock twits: January effect screen

Nothing Doing

I got in early this morning after a long New Years celebration. I rang in the New Year with a bang, literally, as I almost blew my hand off from one of those small bombs/fireworks. All is good though and happy to be back home.

My intentions were to have the contest spreadsheet up and running by now, but due to an extended stay, it will be up later tonight.

From first glance of the picks it seems many are bullish on stocks, I mean how can you not be when stocks were destroyed in ’08. But, then you read pieces like this and wonder if everything is ok.

Only time will tell, and if there is anything you should have learned from 2008, it’s not buy and hold.

I’m skeptical of the market here and have no desire to put a lot of cash to work. The only stocks I brought with me from 2008 were DXO & JASO, that’s it. The rest is cash, a whole slew of it.

I let you know when I decided to deploy some of it.

To Who It May Concern:

The Cajun is all about helping people succeed. When People reach out to me, I reach back. Reasons I do, I’m not sure.

Well earlier today a trader reached out to me, asking me all sorts of egregious questions. This is a guy I knew from the infamous WallStreak. I watched this guy blow up his account, disappear and come back only to make the same mistakes again.

So earlier today this deranged lunatic emails me asking for help, he requests all sorts of information, some he decided to post some he decided to hide. He is a master of cut & paste/photoshop, and the guy clearly needs a friend.

He claims I will form an alliance with him, but in reality, he’s lucky I humored his questions.

A few minutes ago, I asked him why he would reach out to me just so he could get a few laughs on his site. I now understand why most bloggers hide behind a wall and are hesitant to respond, it’s because of people like him.

This guy is the reason why emails are not answered, this guy is the reason why you don’t get the response you might be looking for (I’m speaking metaphorically). But, really, you have him to thank.

Why take kindness for weakness? I asked him why he would post egregious information on his site. His reply, “I just wanted people to see that you think I’m cool!”

How gay is that?

Enough time wasted, back to finding the next JASO.

2008 ‘MadStock of The Year’ Champion

Goes to Market Monk with his pick Short pick in ABK – Ambac Financial Group.

On January 1st, 2008 ABK was trading @ $25.77, it is now trading at $1/share. If you would have followed Monk on his play you would be up roughly 100% on the trade. Congrats Monk on a great pick! We look forward to your pick tomorrow.

Your Prize: Brain, from AlphaTrends, was gracious enough to supply the winner of the contest with a signed copy of his new book. Look for that in the mail Monk.

Runner up: Goes to Sierra Water with his pick in RGLD, up 60% for the year.

It was an embarrassing showing with only 5 stocks, out of 45 picks, positive. Yes, that’s the kind of year it was, Good Bye 2008!

Cajun Buys JASO

I bought JASO @ 3.57 in my long term account. This is one of the cheapest solar plays out there, and falls perfectly into the January effect category.
