Get Your Hard Hats Ready (Update)

Today is going to be crazy.

Update: It appears that the oil sell off I was witnessing has to do with politicians front running their own decisions, and not some sort of New Dawn Apocalypse.

Thus, today may not be so horrible as I first surmised.

Carry on.

CT, a quick update from Vegas from last weekend…I actually was only there 20 hours, as I had to come back Saturday afternoon for a family emergency. I didn’t get as good of a look as I’d like, however here are a few notes:

    1. DTW was absolutely jammed. Every flight was packed and I couldn’t believe the madness in the parking garage, terminal, and food lines. I left on the 3:30, so this was before the “weekend” crowd should have been there…perhaps.

    2. LAS was pretty active, but this is always the case, so hard to judge. I did find the taxi line to be unusually quiet.

    3. The strip was very crowded at 7pm, midnight, and by 10am Saturday. It looked like people were mostly happy just to be in the city, visiting, etc. Did not look like a crowd that was going to spend money on nice restaurants and definitely not gambling.

    4. Inside Bellagio it was busy as usual. However, the high limit tables were busy, but not AS busy as they were before. In addition, on a Friday night you usually see multiple people betting $500/$1000 a hand or more…that night I only saw one or two. The craps tables were a little quieter as well, but there were a couple of tables with decent action, so overall that might be a push.

    5. The pool was crazy at 8:30am on Saturday…but it’s June and it was already 90, so no surprise. By noon it was nuts…again, no surprise. The cafe by the pool had some diners, but it wasn’t going crazy and I don’t believe there was ever a wait to get in.

So overall I would say it felt slower than usual from a spending perspective (gaming and non-gaming), but it was such a limited amount of time and I didn’t have the ability to check out other properties. Never fear, for am I am going back a week from tomorrow and will try to do some better investigating.

I’m sorry to hear about the family emergency. Hope everything is well.

Thanks for the update. When you’re looking around, you should check on the message boards and pin boards in the places for the number of conventions taking place. That’s where the recovery in Vegas has been occuring so far; company scheduling. As long as that is maintained, then I am comfortable.

      Money will follow business.
