The second, and most severely battered, was CNN’s Jim Acosta — who accused Trump’s new English requirement for immigrants as a racist policy meant to import gents from Great Britain and Australia.
The result of his comments was a furious and energetic verbal thrashing, calling out Jim for having a shockingly ignorant ‘cosmopolitan bias’. This is one for the ages.

1) Unemployed Merican’s don’t want or need filthy immigrant jobs like picking strawedberries, washing dishes or making hotel beds. The problem has never been ‘there aren’t enough jobs to go around’. The problem is there aren’t enough of the right kinds of jobs to go around, specifically, the low education – high pay – factory-floor variety.
2) This seems incredibly short-sighted to me. Immigrants ultimately start up more new small businesses, pay more in taxes and generally speaking offer a meaningful boost to the overall economy. With the declining birth rates in this country, slowing down immigration will ultimately make it like swimming against the tide in relation to growing GDP.
3) Obviously more red meat for the base with no hope of passing into law. Sort of anecdotal, but they probably don’t even need a bill to pass to lower legal immigration to the USA. The election of Donald J Trump to the presidency in and of itself is probably more a effective deterrent of attracting intelligent, skilled, English speaking would-be immigrants to to the USA.

I know people who have been in refugee camps and the discussion among their fellows went something like this: ‘Sweden will give us this, France will give us that, …and the ones that chose the US more often than not simply wanted to be free to make their own way. At least that’s how it was a dozen years ago. Very valuable rep to have had.
To be sure, I put a premium on sharing a common culture and see the necessity of assimilation of immigrants. From what I have seen and from what I have read, for the most part, immigrants already assimilate rather quickly. Of course there are always some that don’t. We should probably deport those ones too, along with our felons and gang members.
Speaking of refugee camps, Nat Geo or Frontline had a good video up recently about Syria and following the refugees. Seems like they hole up in Turkey and then pile into rafts across the Med and try to slip into Greece, if they aren’t turned back by the Coast Guard. From there, it seems like an underground railroad system to make your way further North, probably easier to try and reunite with family where ever they might be. Didn’t seem like there was much of a ‘selection’ and more of a ‘any port in a storm’ situation. These people are escaping barrel bombs and religious savages, not shopping for benefits.

But our idiocy caused much of this refugee flood hitting Europe. So one could argue that we should take more because we fucked up the middle east and north Africa (as if it needed our additional help.) But if we’re looking out for number one, the Trump message is right on.
