Both PMs from Sweden and Finland did a press conference today discussing potential NATO membership. Sweden said it’s a go, but Finland needs time to think on it.

So if you’re the leaders of either country and you see Russia attacking Ukraine because of NATO, why would you, especially after they promised to attack you if you joined, turn around and say “you know what Putin, we are not scared — we are joining NATO.”
It would appear incredulous, almost an invitation for war. NATO is supposed to make you safer, but if it’s existence only causes war then what is the use?
These are the ramblings of a mad mad, so bear with me.
As for markets, markets are bid higher with some nice action. I’m 50% cash, hedged, and +120bps so far. I’m light on commodities and more leaning towards tech, since that’s what’s oversold most. Banks are dreadful, so my hedges are FAZ and UVXY.

By no means a political statement, the European countries join NATO for joint protection out of longtime deep rooted distrust of Russia. The USA and Euro are aligned in their response to Russia but the reasons are not the same.
