BURN

Small caps got BOGGED the fuck out. I bore witness to the carnage while luxuriously cavorting with men of leisure, East of Sheridan. Private clubs only, so fuck off and go hang out at your local arcade.

I sold out of my TVIX position, redeeming myself and locking in well earned gains. I’m heavy cash now, still hedged, betting on a continuation of this drop. God willing we can truly drop tomorrow and begin the end — into the new year — fucking everyone. Crash EEEEEET.

The end result, whichever way the winds blow, will be winship at House Fly. Look at the stats.

The market seems to discount 2020 now, 6 months forward looking in full play. Both parties need better candidates as viewed from off shore.

It’s pretty cool when SciFi films predict the future, but not alwasys. The Terminator scenario seems the most likely “bad outcome”, but there is also Jurassic Park.

    Nature found a way:

The parent company is Intrexon XON. How do you put a price tag on this disaster?

Jurrasic mosquitos are highly adaptive. The unintended consequences of tinkering with their genetics is unknown to me. But, super mosquitos means more bugs that eat them, which cranks up the food chain for more birds and more of the bigger birds of prey. You want Pterodactyls? Because this is how you get Pterodactyls.

I think bringing back Pterodactyls would be quite cool.

Granted, there’s way too many people for any dinosaurs to really threathen the human species.

But here’s something that the guys at XON probably don’t think about: in the process of creating/bringing back some macroFauna like a wooly mammoth, what if they also unintentioanlly brought back/created some lethal **microfauna** like a bacteria or virus that humans have no immunity against? The hybrid mosquitoes they just created shoudl be a major red light, but that’s now how they think.

    Two things:

    1) “Super mosquitos means more bugs that eat them.” Nope, absoultely no scientific basis behind this. In fact, just the opposite. There are countless instances of invasive species with no natural predators that devastate an environment. To you and I, a bug is a bug, a fish is a fish, so you’d think the predators wouldn’t be picky, but that is not how nature works

    2) As for Pterodactyls (or weaponized drones with AI) “Scientists are actually preoccupied with accomplishment. So they are focused on whether they can do something. They never stop to ask if they should do something.” So let’s say we actually get Pterodactyls. Did you see Jurassic World?

I’m in no way a fan of mosquitos. However, the larvae feed fish and also improve nitrogen concentrations for plant life. As adults, they feed bats, spiders, dragonflys, small birds, etc. The dragonfly population here near the everglades explodes each season when the mosquito population rises.

I’m in no way saying that mosquitoes should be wiped out. I’m just saying that scientists need to be more aware of the consequences of their research, and this goes double when you talk about genetics.

In other news, the last two stocks I actually went long on, MU and ROKU (both noted on this blog), are hanging on to green amidst the blood bath. No big deal

I’ve got deep green option positions in VIX (not for rookies), XLF, SPY, HYG, FXI, and a few others. MU is a hedge; the fact that my long MU postion is alos green is an unexpected bonus. Hopefully my newly minted long DIS position will also pay off (as long as it doesn’t close that gap…).

I’ve switched almost exclusively to spreads with neutral-to-positive theta based on fundamentals, not trends, so that the market has time to catch up to my thinking.

Gold *will* exist, but what’s your point? Have you ever seen anyone on “Naked and Afraid” bring a gold bar as their one item?
