I often marvel at parents who gracefully accept accolades for the accomplishments of their children. While they’re carrying on about how they paid for their tutoring and made sure their little offsprings studied good and hard for their examinations, my mind scatters off track and conjures up foggy scenarios where those children were raised in the jungles of Japan or greater Asia and scored the same scores on the same damned examinations. In other words, and this is a secret to some, no matter how much effort you put into your kids — they’ll always end up the same — barring interferences such as trauma, conflict and of course debilitating poverty. Eighty percent of IQ is DNA, which means your job, as a fuckhead parent, is limited to feeding them and providing them with an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. If you have an idiot gene pool — don’t bother pressuring junior about the books. Not happening.
The same static logic applies to the market now. It’s bound to go up — because the people with the printing presses have discovered a way to avoid economic cycles. While you’re there, like a moron, sifting thru charts and pretending to have expertise, stocks are pointing to one direction: higher. After they run up, you’ll take credit and consider yourselves to be gurus — but you’re not. You’re just fucking idiots trading in an idiot tape, clever enough to find other idiots to trust you enough to navigate the rough and dead seas of post Fed interventionist economic uni-cycle.

Yes, the market looks higher. I don’t know whether to throw caution to the wind YOLO style or proceed with an unusual degree of caution. But it’s also time to think beyond that. Though I may not know when it will break I’m sure it is going to break hard, deep, and not in the very distant future.
The economic cycle has not been eliminated but there is no longer seperation of markets and the economy. Algos and the fragility of the system require that they act as a unit or fail, although it’s obviously quite durable. But when it fails many things may go wrong at once, making problems difficult to determine or remedy, especially in a tribalistic political environment.
The time to buy after the greatest of bear markets will be when blood literally runs in the streets.

Recent studies indicate that IQ is much more malleable post-birth than was once thought. Apparently, struggle and engagement matter a lot in increasing IQ …and in increasing the IQ of ones’ offspring. On the other hand, groups who receive handouts and who find survival easy …and who are convinced to feel both entitled and the “victim”, are pretty much guaranteed to be dumber than they would otherwise be and they will produce dumber kids.
I am convinced that a brain is like a muscle, don’t use it and it gets soft, or at least softer than it should be.
Having said that, idiocy and dysfunction seems to run in families… part of that is genetic.
BTW- I don’t mind being seen as a Guru, even if only by stupid people. A Guru is a fucking Guru, right?

Frank Sinatra’s Songs for swingin’ lovers! on CD is a great listen, especially in the original mono. Note Capitol took liberties with original masters over the years. The album was recorded at 5515 Melrose Avenue. Songs were mixed on a 12 input console, recorded direct to mono tape at 30 ips. No overdubs, all the way live.
You Tube versions don’t sound as good as the CD and presumably the original vinyl.
Incredibly, songs were recorded without using limiters or compressors. Old devil moon from the album has a middle eight that is audio porn, considering the technology and the fact it was recorded and mixed live:

This is my field of work. So here are the facts on IQ. The top of an individual’s IQ range is set by genetics (80% of it is). How close an individual actually gets to the top of his/her range depends entirely on the environment. So if Albert Einstein is your father but you’re a meth addict, it’s unlikely you will approach anything near the top of your genetically-determined top of range. If you are unfortunate enough to have genetic dolts for parents, then everything in the environment has to work just right for you to be a dolt as well. If it doesn’t, then you won’t even reach the IQ status of blockhead.
Again, post-birth environment entirely determines how close you will get to your genetically determined IQ potential.
When I was a wee lass, in the 1960s, my high IQ father answered this question for me. I asked “will there be another depression?”. I was always of a very curious bent of mind, and often pondered adult topics of conversation. This is what my dad answered to me, “do not worry, they will just print as much money as they need.” True story!
I should also add that the same high IQ dad worked for the New York City subway system. As a blue-collar union man, second generation Irish American. One also needs money not just IQ points.
