Ferd, I know you have a rather thin grasp on reality—but separated by more than 1,100 miles, explain how this “conventional war” is going to take place.
I doubt Trump gives a shit about Isreal. They are holding lands back which is useful in the meantime.
The timing all makes sense now. Trump rushed to announce his decision today (even though he had several more days before the Iran deal extension deadline) because Israel was planning to launch an attack on Iran/Syria.
Here is what happens next: Israel starts war with Iran/Syria. America jumps in (along with the Saudis/Gulf Countries behind the scenes) and together they take down the Iranian regime.
I called this the day Tillerson was ousted right around the same time Netanyahu and the Saudi Prince Salman visited the White House consecutively.
I love how everyone assumes that Iran will lose. I’ll list some reasons why they might not:
1. Iran would view this as a war of survival; the West is war-weary and the most motivated enemies of Iran, Saud and Israel, have smaller armies that are occupied elsewhere (SA internally and Israel with Gaza/Palestine/Syria).
2. Iran is hard to get to. Most likely would have to cross the Gulf for entry. SA has long been uncomfortable with having infidel armies on its soil and hard liners like the Wahabbis might react violently.
3. Iran is one of the few countries in the region that has not recently been destroyed by war or unrest and does have some advanced equipment from their friends in Russia and China. The West would have clear superiority but it might be a smaller advantage than it has had in any war since Vietnam.
4. Iran has a BIG population. Absent the current regime, who supports the new one? It would take a lot of troops on the ground to suppress a populace that would almost surely be extremely motivated to kill the invaders.
5. The US is broke. Saud probably is. Who knows about Israel; they would probably spend their last shekel to end the Mullahs. Either way, this would be a clownishly expensive war assuming regime change is the goal.
6. Oil. For a lot of reasons. If anything regarding its collection, processing and transfer is greatly affected in Saud (think Iranian sympathizers bombing refineries/pipelines) it could go way up. I do think the Saudis want higher oil, but if it were to double overnight, the West would be ruined. Also war with Iran means China gets all the Iranian oil at a discount and moves even closer to an Eastern axis of Russia-China-Iran to counter the West.
7. I hinted at it above, but Iran is capable of waging proxy wars in both Israel (Hezbollah) and Saudi (large Shia population). They would surely pull all of these strings. Both Israel and Saudi would effectively be police states for the duration. Well more than they already are.
I’m sure most of jingoist America-firsters probably think that the above is lunacy, but recall that no one thought Saddam would lose in Iran (some would say it was the beginning of his end), the US would fail in Vietnam, or the Russians in Afghanistan.
But by all means, let’s do it. Should be good for $ITA.
