What’s the point of modern amenities if we’re unable to use them? The heatwave in NYC is reaching extreme levels. The humidity levels are making it feel like 108 degrees outside, which is wreaking havoc on the Con ED power grid. My question is this: how is this fucking possible?
With a government sanctioned monopoly and free cash flow coming out the wazoo, this disgraceful company continues to cut corners and leave its paying residents exposed to problems readily deemed routine in the 19th century.
Consolidated Edison Inc. is asking New Yorkers to use fans instead of air conditioning as it struggles with electrical problems in several areas after demand reached a weekend record of 11,855 megawatts on Saturday.
The National Weather Service suggests ignoring the dangerous advice given by the fucking caitiffs at Con ED.
The National Weather Service, which put New York and other areas across the northeastern U.S. on an excessive-heat warning, has a different message.
“Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning,” the weather service said in a warning to New Yorkers on its website. “Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.”
What’s the point of a greedy fucking monopoly ripping off its customers with absurd rates if they can’t even provide basic, life saving, service?

Do The Right Thing. Fucking hot out there but Sal has a slice no?
This heat is what most of the worlds population has to deal with this time of year. Anyone want some cheese with their whine?
We are NOT shithole nations in Africa and other backward places. Fuck off, hard.
Ditto to that. With all due respect, suck it up yanks.
Sounds like a “soft” rolling blackout….We had a broker in our office sell his client $1MM 30 day Southern Cal Edison commercial paper back in 2001 two weeks before they defaulted….What could go wrong?…Enron manipulating the suppy and demand of electricity could go wrong
President Le Fly, solution? King coal?
Meh, AC is a privelege, not a necessity unless you are elderly. Nobody “feels” the summer anymore, they just hide from it with AC.
This is probably all caused by Tesla drivers.
This is absolutely caused by Tesla shareholders. The scum of the earth. Fucking beheading innocents everyday.
Lol!! I just checked the NYC forecast- upper 80s all week. Horrible.

A taste of future years. Some folks in my building have laid out big bucks for more powerful separate AC systems and they don’t even bother with the condo system. I guess they didn’t get the memo.
No punishment from investors though. Stock up almost 40% YTD with 3%+ dividend.
Con Ed pensions must remain whole.
I am an avid reader of your fine blog. However, I burst out in laughter as I read about your ‘heatwave’ predicament. I live in the beautiful municipality of Palm Desert, CA where it is 108 degrees and humid EVERY DAY in July and August. It is a regular steam bath here. When I bravely leave my air conditioned compound wearing my Maui Jim sunglasses they steam up as soon as I step outside. So, pretty much every resident here departs for the coast line and cooler climes. My family and I just returned from Maui, where yes, it is hot and humid, too. But, not like the desert. Life is tough everywhere! May all your housing purchases be with a ocean view! 🙂
LOL at claim that Palm Desert is humid. The only source of humidity is all the lush green lawns and golf courses, because, due to historical agreements about water supply, Palm Desert can pretend that California has never had and never will have a drought.
Not sure if the URL will preserve my options, but a look at the weather underground 10-day forecast for Palm Desert shows that humidity is mostly less than 25% and the dew point is mostly below 50F.

All of your meteorological statistics are factual. What isn’t factual is that the main source of humidity doesn’t arise from the watering of our 133 golf courses in the Coachella Valley but the monsoon effect that brings moisture up from Mexico and the Pacific ocean. That humidity and dew point information is misleading. At 108-115 degrees the humidity can be suffocating. So, you may ‘LOL’ but you knoweth not of what you speaketh! And anytime in July or August you dare to prove me wrong, I will pay for you to play an 18 round of golf at any course out here and I will wait for you at the 19th hole. Then we will see who is laughing my friend:)
Grew up in Southern Arizona desert, watered by the summer monsoon rains, and lived in a house cooled by a swamp cooler, so, yeah, I have the experience and the data. Palm Desert has no humidity problem.
Well then #ottnott, You are a fucking idiot Otter because no one uses a swamp cooler unless….wait for it… there is a humidity problem…! Get it? SWAMP cooler! Get it?! Fuck, what a fucking Otter?
The people bitching about the heat are the same ones who have spent 30+ years voting for green communist politicians. Don’t want coal or nuclear power? Enjoy your sweaty shit sandwiches, New Yorkers.
Flux, before you wrote your comment, did you bother to determine if the problem in New York City was caused by insufficient generating capacity (which would make your comments about coal and nuclear almost relevant) or by insufficient distribution capacity (which would make your comments look ill-informed)?
The fact that the problems occurred on a weekend suggested to me that it was a distribution issue. Further checking confirmed that. Whatever investments Con Ed has been making to improve reliability — and company press releases brag of such investment — have not included enough upgrades in residential areas to handle the recent peaks in household usage.
Plus 10
Fuck yee, yee fukin fucks! Thar’s NO AC on the high seas laddies. Arrrrr.
