So I grew up in a small california coastal town. I thought I was middle class but in fact I was in a working class family; my dad was a carpenter. All those car workers in Detroit are considered middle class but they were really working class. That’s my opinion.. not sure if it is correct. The English have a middle class that is privileged; like Poirot in the TV series. So what is disappearing in the US is the middle class that is made up of working class people. The privileged US middle class, who is that? The Fly probably, educated with a good income and the high paid techies. It appears to me that the Detroit type middle class is going away and the privileged techie types are going to expand.. perhaps.
