I know, they’re pioneers. But the fucking airplane goes as fast as a Kia. It’s gonna take these two morons 90 hours to cross the Atlantic. This plane is so bad, the two pilots needed to take meditation and hypnosis classes in order to prevent them from driving the piece of shit into a mountain or into the mouths of an octopus.

The spindly, single-seat Solar Impulse 2 left John F. Kennedy International Airport at about 2:30 a.m. EDT on a trip expected to take up to 90 hours, the 15th leg of its round-the-world journey.
Swiss aviators Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg have been taking turns piloting the plane, which has more than 17,000 solar cells built into wings whose span exceeds that of a Boeing 747, with Piccard at the controls for the transatlantic flight.
The airplane’s slow cruising speed, similar to that of a car, has required both men to take up meditation and hypnosis as part of training to stay alert for long periods.

Absolutely absurd. Spend millions on a plane just to prove you can fly around the globe using solar cells?
Why not spend the millions wasted on multiple solar fields in Africa where the sun shines 95% of the year, yet the people starve to death?
Well, at least it is better than that supposed Noah’s Ark replica that crashed into a Norwegian Coast Guard boat. Because that’s what Jesus said “Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty– No, never mind, build a Noah’s Ark replica boat and crash it into a Coast Guard boat.” That thing is a modern day Tower of Babel.
The solar plane might at least bring humanity some new information about ways that solar power can be used, or other technical knowledge. But then maybe it won’t. Maybe the 2 guys are just doing it because it makes them feel good.
Feeding the poor does make some people feel good nowadays. But fewer people than in past times. The poor are considered more and more distasteful, as U.S. and world cultures go more & more in the direction of Ayn Rand– believing that the greatest virtue is selfishness and that altruism is evil.
We once funded an irrigation system for clean water and crop irrigation in Africa for villagers. They dug up all of the PVC pipes and made jewelry out of it. I’m sure a solar field would make good jewelry too
That’s an issue with helping the poor. If you don’t make sure that the “gift” you are giving is something they want to receive, not just something you want to give, then it often goes badly.
I just bought a kia. Its slow. But the amenities make the long ride very enjoyable. Do u think the solar plane has cooled seats and a dope sound system?
Your Kia has a dope sound system?
Infinity system from the factory. It absolutely bumps. Crystal clear.
I don’t know, this sounds kind of interesting. In theory this would mean they could build something that never has to land.
The future of air travel – trapped in economy for 90 straight hours. $17 pretzels.
Hahahaha!!! This is great..
