IMPORTS COLLAPSE

Don’t mind me, I’m just getting my doom on. You’ve been reading me since 2007, some earlier than that. You know that I have a flair for the dramatic, but often and usually for the bull camp. I have a bias and I’m not afraid to reveal that. Much of my life has been dedicated to offering professional guidance for financial matters. I’ve taken the things I’ve learned over the past two decades and laid them bare, here for the unwashed reader class.

A storm is coming. You’ll thank me later.

Imported merchandise declined 3.6 percent, the most since February 2009, as American companies strived to get inventories in line with weaker first-quarter demand. At the same time, shipments overseas fell for the fifth time in six months amid soft global sales.

“The most troubling thing was in the consumer sector — we’re not exactly sure what’s going on there and whether it’s sort of a one-off effect,” in terms of the slump in imports, Jay Bryson, global economist at Wells Fargo Securities LLC, in Charlotte, North Carolina, said before the report.

Still, “I think you’re going to see import growth outpace export growth as you go forward, and therefore trade will continue to be a modest headwind to growth in the U.S.,” he said.

Q2 GDP will be revised lower.

So many new posts in recent months. Is IBC going up for sale?

I think he said that he scaled back his wealth management and fired a bunch of clients to focus on creating content for the website and building out exodus. A lot less stressful– but I’m sure there are some other motives in play too…

This new direction for the site happened shortly after Business Insider was sold at a massive valuation.

Honestly, I greatly preferred the “old” model, when Sir Fly spent longer than 90 seconds on his posts and filled them with original wit, analysis, and vigor. Posts weren’t superseded by a novel news bite every few minutes, so there was some interesting, albeit often half-crazed, discussion in the comments sections, including participation by Sir Fly himself.

The new model of taking a headline and throwing in a sentence or two just creates a cluttered mess where there no longer is any interesting discussion or analysis, either from Sir Fly or from other participants here.

I write this only as one who misses the old content on here and wishes the best for this place, and not as a mere grumbler.

The USA can produce as much of anything as it wants. There is no incentive to increase supply because there is no demand.

We need a $15 minimum wage ASAP across the board so we create buyers. And a $300,000 MAXIMUM wage, supported by a 110% tax on every penny of income above $300K per year, would be motivation for business owners and corporations to pay more.

    Imports dropping? John Belushi noooooooooooooooooooo…

Half the country is too poor to buy beyond bare necessities and the other half already has five of everything – and more.

None of that will change no matter who wins in November.
