It was supposed to help the American taxpayer, wasn’t it? Come on son, you knew deep down the lobbyist had Obama and made him cede to their will.
There isn’t a rebuttal to the graphic I am about to show you. The cost for health insurance continues to rise, squeezing to death the embattled middle to upper middle classes.
The primary reason?
We are a center for profit.
I’m a capitalist. But this is disgraceful.

Not sure what these numbers mean because they don’t reflect discounts. I doubt CVS and others pay full boat. But we all know drug companies generally suck. But, when they develop a drug a loved one needs we think it’s a godsend. Not as simple as it appears.
It doens’t matter if they reflect discounts becuase the cost increase percentage is likely similar after the discount (ie, the 2010 prices don’t count discounts either).
Remember Bush’s Medicare Part B plan? That was another case where drug prices skyrocketed. The differnece is that the US Gov’t subsidized most of the costs for the consumer in that case.
I would call that Obushacare. Georgie porgie gave the store away in the mid aughts with his ridiculously generous drug plan.
Yep. And the ACA (can we even call it Obamacare after 2016?) prevents the Insurance companies from dropping you when you actually get sick. Keeps your kids on the Family Policy until they can get through school. Allows the self-employed (like moi) to gain access to a group plan, something I was never able to do before.
Do you have any idea how long I carried you punks with the premiums I paid before the ACA came along? 😉
I buy Nexium in Costco for $25.
market is a little cray cray today. in a good way tho.
Long $ABBV
Obama was installed by the elite as the populist new face with which to do their old deeds. Who will be next?
Our USD has to hold 94.44ish….We are hurting Japan SO much with this weaker dollar.
Luckily, I have a great family Doctor. When he saw my LDL rising, he suggested Red Yeast Rice. I saw my numbers fall 13% in a year. That being said, high insurance costs and deductibles have put our retirement forward by 3 years. But I agree about the good points of Obamacare, such as insurance companies not being able to drop you, the extended family policy, and group plans for the self-employed. I just wish the plans were more affordable.
Panama papers?
Not so much the drugs, unless of course you need them and have to buy them each month.
With single payer, the govt decides what a doctor or nurse is paid. That’s what Obama wants, that’s what Bernie wants but they will be the ones taking a haircut to lower healthcare costs in a single payer system which I wouldn’t be for.
lolz AGN
“The primary reason?
We are a center for profit.”
That’s way too clinical. We are the host organisms, and a large portion of the pharmaceutical industry has become parasitical.
This is not a direct result of any Bush or Obama policy or favored legislation (though the 2003 Congressional ban on letting HHS negotiate drug prices for Medicare didn’t help). It is a result of businesses that operate with no sense of responsibility for anything but legally maximizing earnings.
That can work out okay if there is pricing transparency, pricing signals going where they need to go, and meaningful competition. Companies that go too far and damage relationships with consumers, or vendors, or local governments, or regulators will be surpassed by companies with better balance.
That’s not the situation with the tangled mess that is US healthcare and health insurance. Valeant exploited every opening, most legal, for sucking more money out of Americans while simultaneously cutting jobs, research into new drugs, and government tax revenue. Read the long, sad story here:
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/01/valeant-wall-st-darling-to-pariah.html
The scary part of the Valeant story is that it wasn’t a rogue operation, a cancer in the pharmaceutical industry that is being cut out. Valeant’s success at the bottom line attracted copycats, so many that part of Valeant’s downfall was that it no longer could keep growing with so many competitors also bidding for makers of old, low-cost drugs.
An industry that still converts the work of many brilliant researchers into life-improving drugs for all of us aging and overfed American bodies has been invaded by goons who think that the business model should be more like that of the extractive industries.
The 2003 Congressional ban on letting HHS negotiate drug prices for Medicare was awful. And, in addition, it was clear evidence that the pharmaceutical companies are have bought and paid for Congress members and are using them for the purpose of bleeding both sick people and taxpayers dry.
Even in a capitalist society, they are some sectors that should not be for profit. And healthcare and pharmaceuticals are 2 of them. This gouging of both sick people and the taxpayers is unconscionable.
“Even in a capitalist society, they (sp) are some sectors that should not be for profit.”
Good luck finding top talent to work in those “industries” that a body politic decides should not make money.
There are nonprofit companies that have no trouble finding talented employees.
You get what you pay for.
