It would probably be better for the U.S. to do nothing in the M.E. But if we were going to do something useful, if we took out Assad, then that would stop the flow of refugees and make it possible for everyone to go back home. The big problem there would be that we would end up at war with Russia, who is propping Assad up in return for various benefits Russia receives from him.
