How many of you go clothes shopping on amazon? I don’t get that. Nevertheless and apparently, plenty of people do. The traditional moat that higher end retailers once enjoyed have been destroyed by niche online websites like Net-a-Porter, and I suppose, to some extent, Amazon. I think the problem with Nordstrom have more to do with a shifting demographic of young people who dress like hobos, than an overall apathy of cladding oneself with garb made from cotton.
Have you seen some of these young people running about the earth? They look like extras from the Mad Maxx remake. Call me olde fashioned, but I’m not a fan of the dystopian society look.
In this morning’s take on Nordstrom’s miss, Faber and Cramer had a nice kitschy conversation about the struggling retailer, bemused by the powers vested in Amazon.
JWN is down 40% over the past 12 mos.

It’s like young Americans just got into the 1990s Eurotrash look. Random tattoos, dressing down expensively, too cool for school attitude. The only difference is that they all vape these days instead of smoking cigarettes.
You forgot.. and live at home.
+1
Just. Too. Expensive. High end hurt by oil/market crash.
Does anyone under 30 even shop at Nordstrom??? I don’t think I have ever really been inside… maybe once.
Anyone under 30 cares more about the phone in their hands than the latest clothes. A few pairs of jeans and some no logo tshirts isn’t going to keep JWN flush.
I buy shoes there every so often; I like their selection, prices are surprisingly competitive and the stores are always a nice place to visit. Beyond that, no way. I’m slightly-below-business casual most every day of the year and it makes no sense to buy that level of clothing at Nordy’s. Love their cafes, though.
Where do you shop?
H&M, Uniqlo, etc. have all killed these guys.
$JWN – Jeff Macke’s pick of 2015 – lol
New York fashion week menswear was heavy into the hobo look again
Yes, very popular look among unemployed millennials with huge student loan debts, who live in their parents’ basements.
I’m retired. I wear shorts, sandals and t-shirts. Sartorially, I make winos look like Goldman bankers. Nordstroms is not for me = WMT, AMZN or the local bait & tackle are my thing. If I get wistful and nostalgic, I have a closet full of Hermes ties and custom suits. One day I’ll sell the ties on eBay, saving one for burial.
what’s not to get? I just bought a half dozen calvin klein tees on AMZN. i’ve been buying crap from them for 15 years. AND I NEVER PAID FOR STUPID PRIME. they get my stuff here in two days free without that idiot membership fee. including sunday and holiday delivery. they waste too much money of shipping and packaging but that’s their problem.
Nordstrom is too upmarket for their own good.
Everybody nowadays wants either the Walmart redneck outfit, dirt cheap “fast fashion”, or at the other end, luxe-hipster shit from tiny companies ran by tiny men with big beards.
If you are caught out selling shitty, middle-class clothes to shitty, middle-class people in this environment, you are 100% fucked.
Why does anyone care what Cramer thinks?
