This is fuckery on the largest scale possible. First Turkey shoots down a Russian jet, who wasn’t doing anything but killing scores of their friends in ISIS and removing their oil money from the scene of battle. Since then, they’ve been upping the rhetoric with Moscow, firing their stupid artillery into Kurdish controlled areas of Syria, permitting safe passage of supplies and manpower to ISIS in Syria, allegedly buying oil from ISIS, and now they’re asking us to assist in a full scale invasion.
Why?
Not to harass or kill their head cutting friends in ISIS, but to annihilate the Kurds, who, as far as I can tell, have done nothing to deserve our ire.
The advances have increased the risk of a military confrontation between Russia and Turkey. Turkish artillery returned fire into Syria for a fourth straight day on Tuesday, targeting the Kurdish YPG militia which Ankara says is being backed by Moscow.
“Some countries like us, Saudi Arabia and some other Western European countries have said that a ground operation is necessary,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told Reuters in an interview.
However, this kind of action could not be left to regional powers alone. “To expect this only from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar is neither right nor realistic. If such an operation is to take place, it has to be carried out jointly, like the (coalition) air strikes,” he said.
So what are those evil Kurds up to?
Kurdish forces continued their push eastwards toward Islamic State-held territory northeast of Aleppo.
This all seems very wrong to me. As for Putin, his patience seems to be waning with the Turks.
“Our relations (with Turkey) are in a deep crisis. Russia regrets this. We are not the initiators of this.”
Who’s ready to send their son’s to Syria to fight for the Turks?

C.I.A. / Turkey (/ “U.S.”) partnered in the CREATION of isis. summer 2014. continuation of the syria-endgame narrative that some of us muchso pointed out. add the belief that the merciless oil dagger was Saudi/US prearranged and these theories kinda startta make sense
Theory just doesn’t make any sense at all. Also, BS conspiracy theories like that give the CIA way too much credit. People should probably stop reading infowars for content – Alex Jones lost his mind years ago. Like the guy personally, but he’s demonstrating total shithouse rat status.
Apart from “it is crazytown” above, recommend people get behind the Kurds. Iraqi Arabs tend to suck in groups, particularly the Shia, but the Kurds are more reasonable and generally understand/appreciate our values (unlike many people in the region). Many of them are nominal Sunni Muslims, much in the same way that many of us are Sunday/holiday Christians. Can’t emphasize enough the importance of religious moderation in that area of the world.
The Turkish government refuses to put its own skin in the game with the Syria problem. Might come back to haunt them. Turkish government is also run by a bunch of pseudo-totalitarians “representing” a well-informed, generally liberal populace, same problem as Iran.
I have done a fair amount of reading about the Middle East. Even the people who live in the Middle East, speak Arabic, and know all the history of the places, can’t figure out what’s going on in the Middle East. There’s no way that we in the U.S. could figure it out.
The shifting alliances are mind boggling. If you want to help the Syrian rebels, you are probably going to help ISIS. Both groups are fellow Sunnis. ISIS is Sunni. ISIS is what is left of Saddam’s Sunni supporters after the U.S. toppled Saddam who was a Sunni himself. Saudi is Sunni too. In fact, some writers and analysts of the Middle East guess that Saudi secretly is supporting ISIS, because they don’t want Iraq– or Syria either– to be ruled by the Shia, now that Saddam and most of his Sunni supporters (except for ISIS) are gone.
If you are going to help Assad, like Russia is said to be doing, you’re helping a guy who used chemical weapons against his own people, and who is causing violence that causes huge waves of desperate immigrants to leave and go to Europe and the U.S. If Russia wants to help Assad be more violent and run more people away to be immigrants, then Russia ought to take in a bunch of these immigrants they are helping create.
So does the U.S. want to help ISIS, by helping Syrian rebels who apparently include ISIS in their ranks? Saudi would like us to, as they are for their fellow Sunnis. Or does it want to help the butcher Assad who is probably worse than Saddam and who is causing the flood of desperate immigrants all over the world? How about neither one?
It makes no sense for the U.S. to help Shia Muslims brutalize Sunni Muslims. Or o help Shia Muslims brutalize Sunni Muslims. Either one.
And this is complicated enough already, without getting into whatever is going on with the Kurds, which I have not read up on very much yet. But so far I don’t see any reason either why the Kurds would deserve the “bad guy” status.
See how ridiculously complicated this is. Even if what I have read is incorrect, then the correct explanation is probably equally complex, especially when you think about trying to decide who the “good guys” are and trying to take the side of the supposedly “good guys.”
War torn areas are full of people who have been harmed by someone else, who are quite motivated to tell a foreign power looking to get involved “My enemy is the bad guy who wants to terrorize the U.S. The U.S. forces should go and kill him.” But all sides in the conflict will tell the U.S. that, about all of their enemies.
Here is the best article I have ever read about U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.

Oops. I meant to type:

BTW, Russia is not our wonderful trustworthy friend in the Middle East. I have read the Russia is only fighting ISIS in Syria, because ISIS is allied with the rebels who are fighting against Assad. And Russia is allied with Assad, the leader who is brutalizing his own people so much that they are fleeing in droves. They are immigrating to Europe and other places that are not really able to handle this big influx of people who would be murdered like their relatives and friends were, if they stayed in Syria.
