We have a bullshit market upon us, mixed with pending earnings from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. [[GMCR]] . I’m holding my little GMCR position through earnings, AND MORE (until $100). Let me just say, I was exactly wrong on the steel stocks, so far. The raping of United States Steel Corporation [[X]] has been very viscous and oh so dramatic. Both Nucor Corporation [[NUE]] and POSCO (ADR) [[PKX]] have dropped off a cliff, as of late. It was a call, a bad one so far. However, I’m not in the stock for 1-2 days. Should we get the recovery I think we will get, in 2010, steel stocks will rip to new highs. They are very volatile and not for people with weak arteries.
Secondly, education stocks are ripping higher today, led by DeVry Inc. [[DV]] . This is a heavily bet against sector, with LOTS of upside and cheap valuations. I like Corinthian Colleges, Inc. [[COCO]] until $20.
Finally, there is something to be said about enduring multiple punches to the scrotum without fighting back. In hindsight, I should have shorted something, especially since I knew the decline was coming. You live and you learn. I do not want to compound my first error (not shorting) by shorting here, at the low end of the range. Although there is a shot we break lower, in homofied fashion, odds are we bounce soon and hard.
NOTE: Most inverse ETF’s in The PPT are ranked the highest in history. Once again, this is usually a sign of a pending reversal, meaning: get long.

Market is usually UP before FMOC and then down after. This I believe is due to shorts covering going into it. Today was the opposite.
Your post before christmas about the 10% January loss also made me think. Lower is coming but not until a great rebound from those who shorted today and yesterday covering at losses.
I did the same on Fly’s warning and saved myself over 2% on the downside.

I still think there is more downside, possibly a lot more, but I could see the Qs rally to 45.50 first. Best day to reshort is probably next Monday afternoon/Tuesday morning.
Mkt will not go up tomorrow unless Obama publicly genuflects to the Master Bankers tonight; this seems unlikely.

I was reading tonight on Dan Zanger’s website about his own oscillator. Once his oscillator turns, then it will usually get to the other extreme. I noticed this same thing with the McClellan Oscillator. The same thing goes with the % stocks moving above 50 day ma. All of these charts have worked well these last 3 years to predict pivots in the market. Nothing else out there seems to work as well. They will keep working until the blogosphere figures they are there on the stockcharts website. When they stop working, then I will stop using them.

Having read Bastiat’s influential “That Which Is Seen & That Which Is Not Seen: The Unintended Consequences of Government Spending,” I don’t think he could have chosen more poorly (or perhaps more aptly?). The opening vignette of Bastiat’s seminal work, which demolishes the notion that government spending stimulates anything, is subtitled, “The Broken Window.” It explains that paying to repair broken windows doesn’t help the economy at large because the money used to pay for the repair is money that can’t be used to buy a shirt or to do whatever else the private citizen may be inclined to do with his money.
Has nobody in the administration’s speech-writing team ever read basic economics? Never mind. I think I know the answer to that.

These numbers are nothing more than guesstimates that are biased and flawed. The BEA comes up with three estimates of growth, a high, low, and most likely. The numbers then get re-massaged so that the reported growth rate is moved closer to whatever the economic consensus is expecting. There actually is a belief at the BEA that there is some value to economic consensus estimates. What a joke. IMO reporting of real GDP growth at present is overstated by roughly three percent per year

I’m holding a decent amount of SD at $9.97…this is so tempting today, to buy more…I am anticipating buying another 1/2 position. I want it lower, though. Low 8’s is what I’m after. If you can average somewhere in the 8’s in this stock, and just put it away for a time (months, maybe a year or two), nat gas will rebound and you will double or triple what you paid. Just saying.

I have a sense this sell-off is for real now. I am shorting on any bounce now considering that this sell-off has been deep and has lasted for 2 weeks. My issue is now figuring out how to avoid getting fucked by my broker and the government in my attempt to profit from the destruction of this bullshit country. I have been searching for ways to avoid getting screwed by excessive margin requirements, bullshit options games, and inverse leveraged ETF decay. I have come to a conclusion that SDS matches 2x inverse S&P500 very well. So, I will be using this etf as my investment vehicle for getting through this bs. BTW, I have a feeling Bernanke may not get approved. Not sure what the rest of you think, but I have a bad feeling about it….

earnings are very wide across all spaces, some good, some horrible, some so-so, some great, but for the most part they are less than anticipated. It all started with Alcoa, I sold my AA the morning after earnings, it hit 17.60 the day of earnings, traded below 16.00 the next day, it now is 12.70.

I shorted AA on the day of earnings. And profited nicely. I didn’t expect it to be the top of the market like it has proven to be however. Now that we have been continuing the downtrend, I am getting all short on bounces. This market is toast people. There is no bounce happening here, and that bodes poorly for this thing over the next several months.
