Once upon the time, HORATIO CLAWHAMMER blogged here, filling in for “The Fly” or Senor Tropicana, whenever they were out throwing m-80’s at piker brokers on Wall Street. HORATIO was into betting against America and all industry. As a point in fact, after having in depth discussions with MR. CLAWHAMMER, I can tell you, sincerely, he felt the fair value for stocks was “without a doubt, $00.00.”
As it happens, HORATIO was allegedly killed (the body was never recovered), via anvil gone mad, during the GREAT BULL MARKET OF 2009. However, people close to HORATIO tell me “that motherfucker is in fact ALIVE.”
Aside from HORATIO, I’ve been thinking about the market and I might just bet against myself, via tester short sales. After all, I have little to lose throwing on some hedges, since I am already heavily long. Long time readers of my Godly blog know and understand that I am never the quickest out of the gates. However, once I home in on my enemy (enemy being you), I “Tasmanian devil” myself into the winners circle, because I like to win meaningless trophies decorated with fancy fucking ribbons and shit.
In short, maybe I shouldn’t beat the horse so much. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time for HORATIO CLAWHAMMER to come out of hiding and throw a few malatov cocktails into the Larry Kudlow nightly circle jerk fest.

Except for ^N225, the world markets are down tonight. A friend of mine, who will remain anonymous, told me that at times during the ’90s, all he did was follow Asia(I think the ^N225, although I wasn’t really listerning as I was with much drink at the time.. he might have mentioned multiple Asian market. In other words, if Asia was up he went long, if down he shorted.
Question is.. has anyone studied this or similar correlations. I would be interested in your results.

the point of the article is to point out that stock issuance is high, either through ipo’s or secondaries. most of the time common sense dictates that is a negative.

But yes stock issuance is a huge negative on the market I would have to agree. However I also see it as another way.
For all intents a great proportion of stock values were wiped in the crash, so this is simply replenishing the leaky boat, which is temporarily negative but doesn’t mean that in a normalized market P/E’s will always have to reflect the fucking.

It is a slow day in the East Texas town of Madisonville.
It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt and everybody lives on credit.
On this particular day a rich tourist from the East is driving through town.
He enters the only hotel in the sleepy town and lays a hundred dollar bill on the desk stating he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.
As soon as the man walks up the stairs, the hotel proprietor takes the hundred dollar bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to pay his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer then takes the $100 and heads off to pay his debt to the supplier of feed and fuel.
The guy at the Farmer’s Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has lately had to offer her “services” on credit.
The hooker runs to the hotel and pays off her debt with the $100 to the hotel proprietor, paying for the rooms that she had rented when she brought clients to that establishment.
The hotel proprietor then lays the $100 bill back on the counter so the rich traveler will not suspect anything.
At that moment the traveler from the East walks back down the stairs, after inspecting the rooms.
He picks up the $100 bill and states that the rooms are not satisfactory…… Pockets the money and walks out the door and leaves town.
No one earned anything. However the whole town is now out of debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is how the United States Government is conducting business today.
If that doesn’t scare the hell out of you, then I don’t know what will.

Chivas – Great point about stock issuance. It’s ALWAYS on my long term list of things to watch for at tops. Like the old saw goes: “Bull markets end with an oversupply of stock.” (or something similar). On the other hand, I think Trimtabs missed the whole move up, and I’d love to see the numbers expressed as a percentage of total market cap rather than in Billions.
