The Week Ahead [Earnings]

I’m going to start tracking my positions in a “model portfolio.” Taking a bunch of screenshots everyday is annoying. I will hopefully have it up by the close tomorrow.

Now, looking forward to this week. Besides being excited for the Super Bowl, I am excited for the earnings reports from YHOO and AMZN. YHOO is tomorrow, if they post some big numbers they are going to fly “Sinatra Style,” but I believe they are still in the phase of re-branding themselves. The new CEO seems to be on fire and the market/investors have a lot of confidence in her. The question is though, can she turn the company around this fast? She has only been there since July, yet the name has gone on a run to the tune of +30%. I think that they beat or at least meet, but their guidance is going to be key. Returning the company to its former glory is not an improvement, they need to innovate, and if they can, this could be a another NFLX. The name has a lot of room to run:

AMZN is going to be one that is hard for me to keep off of. When doing earnings plays, I rarely buy/short before the day of earnings, unless they report in the morning. I usually don’t watch the stocks until the day before, and then on the day of, (if they report after the bell like AMZN and YHOO), I pay special attention to the stock. Just know, no matter what, there is always someone who knows the story before you, and the market has their ear.

AMZN has been know to crush earnings, especially the fourth quarter- for obvious reasons. EPS “SHOULD” be positive, but that not what’s really important, what we are looking for is revenue. If they can get $0.5-1 billion in revenue over the consensus it’s off to the races, especially if they have good guidance. They have been charging up the mountain:

As to the matter of the market as a whole, I believe we continue ripping (no North Shore). Look, without any bad news from the Fed everyone is happy, banking coin left and right, willy-nilly, smoking cigars lit with $100 bills telling their investors “what a year they are going to have.” I am going to be looking for short squeezes with my max pain “Smash the Shorts Screen” in The PPT, and tomorrow I will be shorting JOSB on the open. You can all thank Mr @The_Analyst for this one, if you had gone short when he told you, you would be a rich man (no fiddler). For members of The PPT the “Smash the Shorts Screen” can be found here.

Yes I am still dealing with Google, and I will update you as to my status.
