I Can’t Get a Handle on This Market

I don’t know if we trade up or down, I think I would lean more toward the downside, but I can’t be sure.

Where I have the most conviction, is shorting P. Read this post to see why. Otherwise, here are some ways to play an up market, and one that is headed down.

Friday Night Rhino Chat

A few of you, friends of mine, and friends of the site, have asked me “why didn’t Fly talk about your March Madness win?” At first I thought, “yeah, why not?” Especially since he had called me out when nominating, Maximus, asking if I would “crack under pressure, the pressure of the big stage, once [I was] relied upon to deliver quality picks on a daily basis?” I hate being questioned, but instead of crying about it, or crying about getting my votes stolen for some bullshit, I just worked harder.

That’s what he wants, that was an open challenge, “You want to be great boy? Then prove yourself to be a man among men.” That’s the deal, you don’t play on the pro-bowl team for showing up, you don’t get to jam with Clapton and King for playing a few chords well. This site, and “The Fly,” demand– and breed –greatness. So many “pros” say that you “can’t beat the market,” yet everyone on here does, year after year.

Seeking a pat on the back is for losers, I want to be the best. I don’t want a pat on the back and a “great job making your quota.” I want “HOLY SHIT! You are killing it.” But, only after I really am, someone form this site should have won March Madness. I’m glad I could represent, and only hope that I can continue to provide you with good content and solid picks.

Right now I am in “Full Rhino Short Mode,” thus, I like short: PLULUXONE

I have a few longs on my book, but I can’t really offer up any real day/swing trades long in this tape, most have a longer output, though SPFLGF, and SWHC, are on my book, and look to be good swing trades.

This “Bonehead,” Can In Fact, Make You Money

When we got back from our second tour to Iraq, they started giving us all brain scans. We went down, one platoon each day, to get our scans. This fat slob was operating the machine, stomach looking to burst his camouflage scrubs, he and I were the same rank, but he was truly “An Army of One.” Apparently I had/have an above average skull thickness, which made this fat slob chuckle, and for at least a week I was “PFC Bonehead,” “Hooah Head,” “Battering Ram,” and many other creative monikers.

Besides having my brain squeezed by a mass of protein and calcium, I am actually able to operate as a productive member of society, except for when I’m beat to death from being tired and working out so hard. Last night I forgot to link to the screen I made in this post (now fixed). Then after falling asleep on the couch waiting for Europe to open– it’s a ritual, so shush –I awoke to see VIX futures ripping, to the tune of 4%. This is my “late night tell” as to what happens in the market the next day. Instead of making the title of the post detailing that I though we would trade down, I wrote “We Trade Up In The Morning,” where “Up,” should have been “Down.”

Ignoring the fact that I am actually quite “dense,” I have been making some pretty good picks, and I am much better at shorts than longs. I made this new screen– which members of The PPT can see here –the same screen that picked these winners from my post last night. Take a look at their charts, and I’ll be honest, I think there are a few names in there that will see at least 20% downside in the coming weeks:

And yes, I’ve seen TSLA today, and no, I’m not selling. While everyone runs to squeeze through the slats, I remain in the muddy corral, with the beast rearing up, steam billowing from its nostrils. I will not be denied, I shall– in fact –tame the beast.

Ciao, Bella!

“Will I Crack Under Pressure?,” “The Fly” Said…

On 12/11/12, when giving his endorsement to Maximus, before the elections to become “interim tabbed bloggers,” Senor Tropicana penned these words, in a post.

Rhino is a work horse and does have a certain following behind him. But will he crack under pressure, the pressure of the big stage, once he is relied upon to deliver quality picks on a daily basis? Or will he go “John Rambo” on his effeminate city and end up in prison?

I ask you, good citizens, have I cracked under pressure? Here are 6 picks, with the oldest being NFLX:

Long:

NFLX 1/23/2013, +25%, still long

GILD (March Madness Winner) 2/19/2013, +13.87%, still long

TSLA 2/20/13, +12.13%, still long

Short:

STP 3/11/2013, +70%, covered short

JASO, 3/11/2013, +25.83%, still short

LDK, 3/11/2013, +31.58%, still short

What say you?

I have to say too, that it is absolutely not worth my time to observe this market before 11 am PST. There just isn’t enough volume to develop a solid overall picture. I will, instead, spend that time working on my next masterpiece, and towards cementing my legacy. Bet on that.

Some Names to Keep On Watch

Here are some possible shorts, based on Earl Fly’s screen in The PPT. Members can see the full thing here.

BCOV and SKY (Especially BCOV)

Did I mention I am absolutely wrecked? Having crushed myself, once again.

US index futures are barely up, but VIX futures are down almost 1.7%. I foresee a market that trades up, but basically flat tomorrow. (I could also be completely wrong). I am looking for stocks that have momentum behind them, with good hybrid scores, and volume. Volume is going to be key tomorrow, as all traders will have to “pick their shots.” I am raising cash and looking for my last winners into tax day, I’m looking for a few percent– here and there –because I want to keep my winship and limit risk. These are some names that I think may provide that, based on this screen, (sorry, friendo, members only).

I’m sorry but my Vikings Recap is going to have to wait, I am beat.

Solar, Made in Chiner

I wonder what Lenny Dykstra thinks about Chinese Solar?

I don’t care for anything Chinese, except for their delicious food, especially the fine Dim Sum cooked up by the folks down at City View Dim Sum. I can’t tolerate a culture that creates a demand for the killing of my namesake. Why the demand? Well, they think by consuming Rhino horns, tiger penises, and other animal parts, that they will magically become hung. Well, at least hung more like a circus peanut, rather than their current light switch like state.

FACT: THIS IS NOT GOING TO HELP THEM. Instead, they are supporting the poaching of endangered species, which in fact, hurts us all. These are the same folks that have let a numerous species go extinct because of their own stupidity/laziness/gluttony . Just like these River Dolphins. If you are offended by this, you are offended by the truth, so maybe you have some soul searching to do? Or perhaps you are without soul, phallus, and top hat?

Obviously, a people who can’t even bother to care about the extinction of a species that dates back 20 million years– which they believed to have magical powers –could never be good at making renewable/green energy technology. Right. Thus, I covered my STP short for a 70% win today. Here are my other Chinese Solar shorts.

JASO +22.71%

LDK +23.03%

TSL +16.02%

How you like them apples? Don’t forget to watch “Rhino Wars,” on Animal Planet. Let’s stop this bull shit.

A Few Quick Picks

The interwebs are too quiet for an epic Rhino piece on invading Iraq. I’ll wait until everyone is rejoicing, pint glass in hand, to tell great stories of war.

I ran my newest favorite screen, the Atchafalaya Basin Screen (Link only works for members of The PPT, friendo), and it returned some great results. Not only great names themselves, but it also hints to a continued bull run. ESPECIALLY– mind you –because I raised all the earnings/revenue growth metric filters.

All the charts can be found here.

I already own SPF and I really like RYAAY, MGA, FIG, QCOR, DHI, and maybe LOPE. So keep these names on watch.

US futures are flat currently, but barring no bad news before the open, I don’t see how we do not continue upward.

Body Position, Breathing, Sight Picture, on $SPF

I am looking to buy SPF into earnings at the end of the month. Perhaps I shall cover some Chinese solar. Either way, this is a winner.

  1. It’s a home-builder in markets with some of the highest demand.
  2. It has an average return of over 8% in April.
  3. It has short interest of over 30%.
  4. It’s less than 1% from its 52 week high.
  5. It showed up on this screen.
  6. The risk would only seem to be the ~4% between it’ current price and 20 day SMA.
