Great stuff but you have to admit this is a bit like a parent doing their kid’s book report, art project, etc. Loving this but yeah, unfair advantage when OA is your dad!
As a father of two teenage boys myself, this warms my heart.
One of the most important lessons I’m trying to teach my boys: Life isn’t fair. Never has been, never will be.
Corollary: The cavalry isn’t coming. If you want something, find out how to get it, and then do whatever it takes. Another phrasing: Figure out the rules of the game, and then play it better than anyone else.
I can’t begin to tell you how many Millenials I’ve had working for me who have not learned this lesson.
Yes, it is a sour outlook, but it also helps you get through the bullshit and analyze what is actually going on so you can move past it. Funniest thing was when the kids realized that rule # 1 applied to the parental units as well…..
What I really like about the story is a) yes it helps when you are close with somebody who has a special talent to learn from. But if you don’t know a mentor like that, there are tons of people out there to learn from, like on this site. B) people successful in the stock market could be anybody – neighbor, random acquaintance, person you walk by at Costco so never judge a book by its cover!
I remember I was 12 when dad told me what a stock was. My eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. I must’ve spent 2 hours asking him about the stock market and how it worked. This was like 1996 or 1997. My dad is now approaching retirement after decades of sage investing. He’s such a fucking boss.
So anyways, this saga of you and your son taking down the school stock market challenge has been cool to read about. Glad your boy knocked it out of the park.
LIXXF getting a nice lift. Jeff, do you count 3 waves in the most recent move down, or 2? I’m sure that, no matter what I see, you see something different.
Took down some more FXE here. I think I’m going to roll my SNAP contracts for next week forward or lower their strike…. 27 might be unrealistic from here in just 5 sessions.
it was funny but it’s too “on the nose” to real comments, especially for a non avatar comment even though you participate in the comment section here a lot.
Awfully quiet here, SNAP is not doing its thing, unfortunately. Should start closing down and admit it did not perform the way expected. Though grateful for the first week.
It’s not you…but the thought is representative of where the stock is. No traders finished the week with any traction this last week. The stock found equilibrium. It’s good to see longs leave for no other reason than emotion or doubt.
All out of BIDU calls – sold down some this morning – and last bit right here. Carried a bunch of VXX calls over the weekend – sold some down earlier and added less back a little bit ago. So – that said – still have a bunch of VXX 16.5 calls.
I personally think long vol is the hardest trade out there, but short vol sure is crowded. With any luck we’ll get a sharp backwardation that cuts XIV in half. Then we can get back to making easy money.
Random thoughts on charts I’m watching…
$RAD has that $ANF falling wedge look to it, looks close to a point of resolve at the $3.79 gap fill from 2012.
I like $F sitting on a long term trend line. If it breaks that line, $F is F’d for awhile.
Is $DB in the throes of aversion right now? ie. wait for further pullback before a LT buy?
$TWTR shaping up again, not sure I can resist anything below $14.40…
This is fucking awesome

So is a Merit Badge, Science Project or Pinewood Derby Race.
We won all that shit too, lol.

I teach my kids three rules:
Everyone lies.
Life isn’t fair.
Everything is about money or sex.

Don’t forget “power” – not like Hillary was running for POTUS for the money or sex.
Alec Bladwin had the great fortune to highlight this during two lines in Glengarry Glen Ross:
– Always Be Closing
– Coffee is for closers only
Jaxon the stock man on campus
Baller!
Good work, OA.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOgS8gTATv8#t=1m32s
Looks like he’ll be interviewed on CNBC soon. lol
Time for him to open up an OTC trading service on Twitter and just shamelessly take errbody money.
Epic
Do you feel another rotation coming on, OA?
I’m looking at energy
Hey Jeff, can you ask Jaxon what he thinks about SNAP here?

Priceless! Congrats
his answer could have been that he won because he completely ignored all of the teacher’s “rules.”
I think OA Jr. is smart enough not to provide that answer.
This story chain has brought me significant enjoyment and amusement over the course of the contest.
so basically, OA Sr beat a bunch of school kids .. not a fair fight !! 😀
a high-risk, proud-papa and -son reward trade
Last I heard, the internet was available to every one of those kids.
MORAL OF THE STORY IS TEACH YOUR FUCKING KIDS TO BE WINNERS.
My hell.
The sit down’s, the teaching, the experience from his perspective was what made this worth talking about.
First experience with learning what I do for a living. It was my “Take Your Kid to Work” day at my office. We made the most of it.
As a father with a son myself, that’s an awesome feeling/moment.

I bet those Benjamin Graham fundamentals came in handy over the last 2 months.
Where you been, man? Been a crow’s age.
it would have been funny if a kid was all-in short LULU.
OA, for a trade only thoughts on beaten down FSLR?
For a trade, nada.
He texts you at 12 AM?
I’m no apple genius, but I don’t think that’s the text time
I replicated the convo elsewhere. I can’t blog from my phone and transferring an image is more time than it’s worth.

I bet Jaxon thinks his old man is an even bigger hero than he was before. That’s a good place to be for father and son.
It’s TOO MUCH WINNING, make it stop.
Snap failed to print 22.70 for the 7th straight session. What does it mean?!?
We’re all going to die, son. All of us. Kiss your beloved farewell.
Jesus, get a grip and either 1) sell or 2) let the trade play out.
Lol…I was trying to come up with the most useless observation possible. Got lost in translation. I’ll try harder next time.

Thx I’ll work on that avatar
Its means the MM wanted the 22.50 pin

It’s time for another ask me anything post

Please do, this is why it’s taking more time.
aversion/denial in action.
Did not know I had such a stock moving power:)) But did sell out, so now your scenario can materialize…

Sold 30% of my LVS this morning. Playing with the houses money now, thanks Jeff!
Sold second half today. Awesome trade Jeff. Got that one from late Feb.

I sold out of BIDU today too for a little over break even. Enough to eat dinner at a nice restaraunt at least. LOL!
You must be playing a shorter BIDU game than I am…?
I want to buy it lower if I get the opportunity.
I won’t name names, but a certain setup is looking really good right now on a lower time frame. Contemplating adding to this weekly.
Hey, my options are in the money! Go read my stocktwits comments. I time stamped the trade!
