WASHINGTON — A senior Qaeda militant in Yemen linked to the deadly bombing of an American warship there in 2000 was killed in an airstrike on Sunday, the Yemeni government said, in the latest sign of an escalating American campaign to counter the terrorist threat there.

’bout damn time! Just like the embassy bombings and other “minor” acts of terrorism politicians make stern speeches saying “we’ll avenge the act, blah, blah, blah” and then do nothing. Year after it happened the ship I was on (USS San Jacinto) responded to a Yemen fishing vessel in distress in Gulf of Aden and ended up towing it into Yemen waters. Nothing happened, but the Cole was on our minds and our stress level was up that night.
