Sen. Rand Paul told his communications director this morning he was being detained by TSA at the Nashville airport.
The Twitter account associated with Paul staffer Moira Bagley, @moirabagley, tweeted around 10 a.m., ET, “Just got a call from @senrandpaul. He’s currently being detained by TSA in Nashville.”
A TSA spokesman said the agency was looking into the matter but could not immediately comment.
Paul apparently set off an airport security full-body scanner “on a glitch,” a spokesman in Paul’s office told ABC News.
The Paul staffer said TSA agents would not let Paul walk back through the body scanner and were demanding a full body pat-down.
The Paul spokesman said his office called TSA administrator John Pistole about the incident this morning.
The Senate is back in session today at 2 p.m., with votes scheduled at 4:30 p.m.
The issue of pat-downs has been an important one to Paul, the son of libertarian-leaning Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul. Sen. Paul brought this issue up at a hearing earlier this year.

In any case my boring class is over so I cannot respond as frequently now as some attention is required. I will, however, take time to reiterate that I massively enjoy these shouting matches.

The way we learn is through passionate argument. I certainly hope my dislike and disdain of your views is not construed as a dislike or disdain of you.
I do however feel you view me as a “liberal” or “leftist” whereas I hate party labels. Some of my views are left wing (taxes), some of my views are right wing (gun control, deficit reduction). Unfortunately there is a polarization in American politics that makes intelligent debate difficult, fortunately I do not live there. Double edged sword and all that.

Personally, I think the “no-label” thing is silly. Even taking a “no-label” position is… taking a position!
You can certainly say you “lefty” about X and “right leaning” about Y, but the truth is everyone is mostly something. Almost no one is right up the middle.
And as for learning via arguments, I’d disagree on that convincing you of anything in the end. You really need to learn for yourself, through personal research and experience. Nothing beats the latter, IMHO.

Rand Paul is the man. Go to youtube and watch some of his speeches on the floor regarding personal liberty, the re-authorization of the patriot act and the TSA. He is truly concerned about the future of liberty and freedom. I think that he will be primed for a presidential run in 2016 after what Ron Paul has been accomplishing this year.

In all fairness, his dad’s more of an anachronism than a flake. Rand is much better suited to operating in the 21st century, and his “hardline” stances aren’t quite as broad as Ron’s, allowing him a broader base of acceptance than his father.
