1) Trader wakes up, sees headline that N. Korean dude is dead. Thinks “that’s great” one less asshole to worry about. Time to get long.
2) Trader checks futures, sees they are down. Thinks “that’s bad” time to sell everything.
3) Two weeks later when WWIII hasn’t broken out and S&P is at 1300+ trader thinks “What the fuck was I thinking?”
5 weeks later when the EU situation continues to devolve and the S&P drops to below 1100 those still long feel like taking a power drill to their temple for taking on so much headline risk.
