NTSP WANTS FULL BAN ON CELL PHONE USE WHILE DRIVING

Federal accident investigators Tuesday called for a nationwide ban on the use of cell phones and text messaging devices while driving.

The recommendation is the most far-reaching yet by the National Transportation Safety Board, which in the past 10 years has increasingly sought to limit the use of portable electronic devices. It has recommended such bans for novice drivers, school bus drivers and commercial truckers.

The new recommendation, if adopted by states, would outlaw non-emergency phone calls and texting by operators of every vehicle on the road.

It would not apply to hand-free devices or to passengers.

Unfortunately driving while stupid is still perfectly legal.

Please obtain a definition of “enumerated powers” and then go screw yourself, Fed.

Chess and Cronkite: I am not sure how to post to this Newsite, so if you would oblige me, and please post this article about even MORE EGREGIOUS Federal perfidy than the one posted above.

Seriously, stories like this make you want to carry a torch to Washington.

Jake, gotta disagree with you on this one after seeing many drivers texting (head down & looking at their keyboard) while attempting to drive. They look exactly like drunk drivers. I seen this from Connecticut to the Carolinas. Once you see it, it may change your mind.

Also it’s up to the states to implement the recommendations. No different than the 0.8 for DUI.

I don’t like the Feds making the rules, period.

It’s a bad precedent, and you should read the article I linked above to see where such precedents lead.

Either the Constitution means something, or it means shit. Decide.

I agree the sewage deal should not be a criminal offense. It makes no sense. I have a friend that ran afoul of similar laws while performing his duties at a power plant.

@DB – not so… Once you know what to look for, it’s really really easy. They look like drunk (impaired) drivers. Normally driving 10 to 20 mph slower than the traffic, and weaving.

My bro is a cop in Marin County. He says that if he wanted to, he could be writing these tickets 24-7. It’s a joke. It’s not drunk driving because not everyone is drunk driving.

Almost everyone, however, is talking and texting.
