  3. checklist

capit has to be at least a possibility here, no small list of stocks are at or below their feb/march/april 2009 prices.

BYD is right down there despite improving vegas metrics, mgm isn’t that far off despite some actually impressively improving performances, coal is right there, a ton of basic materials are below last years “deflation panic” bottoms, numerous financials are down there…

This despite the fact that financials aren’t as dependent on short term funding, are more liquid, better cap’d, etc…

man, a recession seems likely (my primary basis for that is ECRI’s call, as their track record is good), but its not cast in stone here. people, its not like we have a financial crisis and near depression every 2 years, we don’t. in 2008 people had a great deal more denial, a great deal less preparation, and a great deal less of an idea of what the problems actually were.

today we can at least name the problems, i think, and they should just default greece and end it, so that the market can see the aftermath and begin to get over it.

  4. checklist

beyond that, we have solar taking out multi year lows and just cock-whipping the 08/09 lows on their way down.

yet its an industry closing in on grid parity (and, hence, an eliminated or massively reduced need for gov’t subsidies?). I’m sure that well before grid parity is official the market will price it in. For now its -10% a day, lol. or at least -5%, I mean, -5% is the new up for those stocks… Iam sure not one of their charts is a buy, but at some point, don’t you have to just say “screw it, this is worth 2-5 times my money in, say, 5 years, I can wait”?. I don’t know anything about solar but its on my to-learn list.

the PCX/coal selloff is getting fairly awesome as well. along with the rest of basic materials.

the market is at some stage of pricing in a china implosion / developed world recession / greek default / mini lehman. Companies are really not as troubled as they were in 2009, but they are starting to get priced as though they were…

the sheer force of the declines keeps me on the sidelines. I may have to go to an early 2009 theory of “buy 10% on each big up day that seems like it might be the start of a rally” strategy.
