And here’s the solution to this morning’s chess puzzle. Turns out I got some smart readers… FluxCapacitor solved it first. http://ibankcoin.com/gioblog/?p=2157
Knight to F7 check, King to G8
Knight to H6 check, King back to H8
Queen to G8 check! Rook takes queen G8
Knight to F7 smothered checkmate.
“The rook has betrayed his king.”
… sacrificing the white queen was the masterpiece of it all. We all like a good queen sacrifice. Lesson: sometimes you have to lose some gains in order to make “the big one.”

red is screwed either way. rook takes knight, queen to D8 check, etc., etc.
yup. both ways are mate in 4. but that’s the obvious solution.
Chess rocks! I quit playing long ago because I lack opponents, my open sometimes sux, and the infinite possibilities started to give me a brain hemorrage. Good exercise.
BTW, the other way is 6 i think, red sacrifices queen, then rook.
Still 4 moves… we only count white’s moves. that’s the notation.
