I had a number of friends who were like partners and shit at some pretty decent firms when i lived in NYC. They all hated their freaking jobs and were always moaning about how they wanted to get out. They don’t seem to be happy campers as a profession.
Practicing law wasn’t bad in the late ’70 and up to mid-80s but after that it was tough. Too many attorneys and legal malpractice threats increased and you couldn’t trust your own client half of the time.
It was CYMA the whole time.
Matters used to be taken care of almost by handshake and phone calls by counsel but then evolved into “this letter will serve to confirm our conversation where you said that and I said this….”
