It’s Been a Long, Cold, Lonely Winter

I return to the hallowed halls of iBankCoin.com bearing good news in the life of one, “ElizaMae”.

For the first time in 2012, I finally found myself in a rhythm with the stock exchange and ended up finishing the month of July +11.99%.  Granted, one month doesn’t mean shit…but it is nice to see some positive results.

Since I started writing here at iBC, my trading results have improved dramatically.  There is a level of accountability I have to accept when I write openly about my trading that forces me to honor my risk profile very strictly.

When I’m off firing away on trades with entirely too much risk on the table, trying to hit home runs…inevitably and invariably, my trading suffers.

After many years of experience, I need to accept what I am (well, I constantly need to remind myself).

I’m a doubles hitter.

Sure I’ll get into one every now and then, but I’m going into trades mostly looking to “make contact”.  Accepting this quality brings about a much more balanced and confident trading mentality.

Hence, I ended up making a few really savvy trades based on PPT hybrid score and a ‘comfortable’ formation on $IWM the last week of July, and finish with a great month.  After the dust cleared, the portfolio is now down to three stocks and a large percentage of cash.  It looks something like this: $MO (28.2%), $SAVE (7.1%),  $RGR (6.1%), cash: 58.5%.

In other (more exciting) news, I have obtained full time employment with a fantastic company doing exactly what I wanted to be doing.

Very few of my civil engineering classmates had an interest in Traffic Engineering…even fewer people in the outside world care about Traffic Engineering.  I happen to be fascinated by it.

In the wake of many years of working bullshit jobs for bullshit companies owned by assholes, the idea of finding gainful employment that is intrinsically enjoyable was so absolutely foreign to me, I’m still dazed with disbelief.

After starting August 1, my trading and research time has been cut back significantly, thus my available time to write is basically nil.  I believe that as I get more accustomed to the job, I will have time throughout the day to pen some thoughts, but for now I need to step back and use my ‘stock market’ time to focus trading and research.

Alas, I will continue to post nonsensical bullshit (and awesome songs that come up on my Pandora feed at work) to Twitter…so you can follow me there if you so choose.

After slumping for a while, it just feels good to finally have one fall in our favor.

My best to you all.

  1. My wife works for a transportation engineering firm here in Richmond.

    • That’s awesome. I never really got into the other sub-disciplines of CE, but would have been willing to settle just to get a job. Me finding this job was a combination of luck, hard work and fortuitousness. I’m really excited about it.

Is it just me, or are there a lot of random coincidences that you and I seem to have in common?

  2. Congrats on the good month!

  3. Well done chap. Engineer traffic well my friend. I curse several feats of engineered pandemonium along my daily commute.

    • Haha, thanks,

They were most likely implemented prior to ‘modern’ transportation theory….hence: clusterfuck.

  4. Yogi & Boo Boo

    Nice job.
