The Jimmy V Spirit

jimmyV4

The 30-minute chart of the small cap ETF shows bulls giving another valiant effort at a V-shaped rally off yesterday’s selling. Price is pausing a bit here at resistance since the beginning of this year. It should be interesting to see if we just keep going higher, as we did in 2013 off these types of rallies, or instead this time around bears pounce on the exuberant but short-lived bounce.

I covered up the rest of my AXP short inside 12631 for a three-point win, with earnings later this week.

Back with some more ideas in a bit.

Jimmy V was the coach at Bucknell in the early 1970’s. They were building a new gym onto our high school, so we had wrestling practice in the Bucknell gym while Coach V was trying to have basketball practice. I’m sure it drove him nuts to have 50 high school kids actually running laps around his practice, but he was always friendly and quick with a joke. What a character.

Jimmy V used to live in MacGregor Downs in Cary, NC while coaching at NCSU. My family would go and eat at an Italian restaurant near his house on most Sundays for dinner. Jimmy V was always there for the same good food with family and friends. Almost always he would start telling stories at his table which would then erupt into a loud laughter. Most times the laughter was so much at his table that he would end up standing up in the room and telling his stories to everyone. I will never forget those moments we got to hear so many of his stories in such an inclusive environment. On a more somber note my first engineering job included surveying as an intern. One day we were up on his street (not knowing). I looked up at some random (large house) and saw a very frail, almost ghost like, Jimmy V. looking out a large bay window at us. That was the last time I saw him and I believe he died a few weeks after. RIP Jimmy V.
