Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, 29, born in America to Afghan parents, walked into a gay club called The Pulse last night and opened fire, killing 50, injuring at least another 50.
He was from Port St. Lucie, Florida, a registered democrat, and was believed to have been married and lived in this house below.
There are varying theories about his motives, stemming from possible Islamic ties to extremist groups in the Middle East to homophobia. It’s being reported that his Father said Omar got very angry when he saw two men kissing in public.
It’s very easy to simply label this an Islamic crazed terrorist attack and it might very well be just that. But this fucker was born and raised here, lived amongst us and shared in our culture. Some will view this as a gun issue, others a terrorist attack on western values, who are welcoming to others regardless of their sexual orientation.
I have a more myopic view on these events, and think humans suck and will disappoint every single time. Watch the news cycle work itself into a frenzy, with political agendas running wild trying to impose their bias on this event. There will be gun control and Islamophobia nuts vying for airtime to share their views on this attack, all the while Americans go about their days sucking on frappacinos, texting on their fucking iPhones.
99% of all Muslims are peaceful and tolerant to western ideals…yadda, yadda, yadda.
This circus makes me sick.

Trump will be surging in the polls.
If O says one word about gun control I think my head will explode.
Hope he does and should. Please you-tube your head’s explosion.
Will do dick. Fuck off.
Climate change is the least of our problems, it’s “human change”…Morals and the value system for life, as well as the “unborn” is in perpetual decline.
Media has a formulaic approach to these tragedies that pushes them out of the news cycle in about a weeks time, sad but true.
Exactly, Dr. Fly, exactly. ? All the while, 100 families are grieving and there is not a dam thing anyone can do for them.
Sorry for the ? mark, it was typed in as a sad face.
Religion makes the weak minded do crazy things.
Or else religion is the excuse that weak minded people give when they do crazy things.
Violence is deeply ingrained in the Islamic gene pool. Let’s build that wall against Muslims immigrants too!
“…with political agendas running wild trying to impose their bias on this event.”
Like you are doing right now.
How so, asshole? What was political about my statements?
Uhh.. you tagged him as Democrat?
I couldn’t nail down his politics here. You’re reading into things, I think.
Keep on selling assault-style weapons to make it easier for nuts to kill more law enforcement people and citizens. Of course it’s a gun control issue too.
He was a registered democrat. I posted all the information I could find about him. That isn’t a political statement, but a fact,
Bullshit.
This isn’t a gun control issue. This is a people issue.
More bullshit. Would the maniac have killed 50 and wounded 50 so quickly if he had a pistol? Of course not. I’m not anti-gun. I’m anti-assault weapon.
It was also reported he had a bomb vest on so if you got the motivation…
There’s no such thing as an “assault” weapon. And the gun issue is that the men in the club should have been armed. They are targets at a target. What are we, Paris sheep?
If he was a ‘right winger’ every fucking media outlet would be saying it. The fact that he WAS A REGISTERED democrat doesn’t mean democrats are terrorist murderers, just like conservatives aren’t all religious loons.
You’re a moron of the first magnitude for being so emotional.
You are the one shouting.
Emotional? Hardly. I think you are talking to the guy in your mirror.
Everyone is emotional about this. That just means that we are human. It’s a heart rending event.
Devastating for so many friends and family. Those who are gone will leave empty spaces that the gay community in Orlando will feel for many years.
This was a painful blow, a human toll you expect to read about only in reports from war zones. But there is a substantial “background noise” of such violence, too, that we mostly ignore. Here are some of the headlines I saw when going to the LA Times site to read of the Orlando shooting:
–Blasts rock Shanghai airport ahead of Disney opening; four injured, suspect hospitalized
–Spate of shootings in L.A. County leaves at least seven dead and five wounded
–3 dead, 2 wounded in possible murder-suicide in Panorama City
–Rapist seeking revenge suspected in deaths of 11 family members in Mexico, official says
Fly says he thinks “humans suck and will disappoint every single time.” It sounds profoundly pessimistic, but there is an underlying optimism. Humans cannot be always disappointing to us unless we always expect something better.
I think the human mind evolved for survival in a world where anything our senses could detect were either part of our immediate environment or were things, like stars and meteors, that hinted at some beyond-human world that was mostly mystery.
In the modern world, our senses are flooded with sounds and words and images of human events from all over the globe. These events are not random samplings of life in other places. We get a distorted, tragedy-heavy view of the world. We manage the psychological impact partially, by creating emotional distance between ourselves and those involved in the tragedy, but we can’t help but be affected by what we view.
For most of us, the impact doesn’t go much beyond the emotional distancing and some distortion of our perceptions about the probabilities of certain events (for example, we greatly overestimate the danger of child abduction by total strangers, while underestimating more common threats like driving while sleepy or distracted).
For some people, however, the effect is more harmful. The media amplification of events around the world helps fuel an amplification of their emotions and their need to act on those emotions. They adopt the grievances, the anger, and the desire for payback that, in reality, is spread out across a wide area and a large number of people.
Even then, most of those affected won’t go beyond incivility, or minor acts of violence. They might, for example, bring pepper spray to a Trump rally to spray protestors, or they might bring eggs and tomatoes to throw at Trump supporters. They might vandalize property.
Among us, though, are people with minds that don’t work right. Some of those people feel so angry and/or paranoid that they believe they must identify and destroy those who have brought such great evil to the world. The media provides them with ideas about who to blame, and the internet provides communities of people who reinforce those messages.
More recently, and far more dangerously, we have organizations like ISIS that deliberately seek out these people with broken minds and turn them into weapons — I think it would be fair to view them as human drones. ISIS is waging a violent war against the world in pursuit of some delusional kingdom in the Middle East but there will be other groups and other causes.
@otto. Nice right up.
However the duche with the pepper spray used it on that wildebeest cuz she got aggressive. Grabbing, spitting, attacking with fists , kicks , fire and so on is 99% from one side.
Let’s not forget the racist speech, and the Mexican flag waving while these lunatics burn OURS. These are people that are not so different than religious nuts.
They have an ideology that’s hell bent on either from some perverse use of guilt or physical force in trying force a change on ours.
You are either a cow primed for the milking or a man or woman who will not be milked.

Well, some people treat politics like religion. It’s wack, but on different level I guess.
Chuck what would you do to change this sort of thing? If Trump were to be elected, perhaps he would keep Muslims from immigrating. But this guy was born here. So someone like him could still do something like this again.
Chuck,
I recall an instance in my youth, where I worked briefly with a guy who didn’t eat anything at lunch 1994ish? I was curious and asked why he only ate a snack during the day. His response was that he had converted to Islam and during Ramadan they don’t eat meals? Cool with me.
Dude gave me his rap tape to listen to that was produced in his “studio” ,which upon listening to was the most violent, horific stuff you could imagine being said. It was so awful music wise I laughed it off. Wu tang wannabe I thought at the time…Nope. These deranged minded people are all over the place.
Fly, good write up per the standard. Humanity cannot be trusted because its made up of people. And in my experiences, people generally suck. The next 4-8 years are only going to become more roller-coaster’y. In the words of the great Samuel L, “Hold on to your butts.”
