What We All Have In Common, At Least In These Hallowed halls…

I go to Safeway, the grocery store, everyday. I do this as to not waste food and to not get b0red “eating clean.” They also have an above par craft brew selection.  I prefer self check, but when I am with the lady, I am usually relegated to the “Express Line.” Along the sides of this Que reside massive canyon walls, possessing such literary trash as “US Magazine.”  The Fiance used to have a subscription, NOT ANYMORE. What I’m getting at, is how all I think when I see that trash is, “WTF is wrong with the WORLD! That people care about the fucking KARDASHIANS!!!!!!!” This is what we have in common.

Get it PAL? It’s because we all realize how fucked up the world is. Here are some examples: Firms would rather hire based on good grades and frat experience, over a proven track record in their personal accounts and their military record, unless to get a tax write off, think hiring a crippled person or mentally ill person; the fact that this country rewards failure, read welfare and socialism; or that the media is in control of the majority of information dissemination to the common citizen.  “He Who Wears The Diamond Encrusted Top Hat,” the great Fly often writes/tweets about how fucked up shit really is. Meanwhile, idiots in middle America are going to Waffle House, and idiots in LA are going to Starbucks thinking they are the most special person out there, neither has a care in the world, except getting off work and drinking themselves into a coma.  I know, I know, speaking to the choir.

Here is my book, and my thesis’. I have been doing well, but have been getting “long squeezed [sic],” in the last few days. I am on margin. I really need to transfer cash out, though present market conditions are not allowing this. The reason? Because, the SFMTA was so kind to give me a bunch of bullshit tickets then boot my car, costing, in San Francisco dollars, $2200.   APPLAUSE! I paid more in tickets then most pay on their mortgage! Well I transferred money over to buy this dip, it has not reached my account yet and is just sitting in the river Styx. Fuck.

Long:

YELP, we know this. Probably best social media stock currently public, great growth in earnings, almost a profitable company. Plan to sell on momentum with $FB IPO. Cost $25.20 OUCH!

ZNGA, buy-sell-short. Currently long $9.17 OUCH! thesis, sell on FB momentum as both stocks carry a semi-symbiotic relationship; ZNGA revenue 90% from FB, FB revenue ~35% from ZNGA. Sell at high, most likely day BEFORE IPO, then short both day before and day of IPO at highs. Short price target $15 then down to $0.

EVI, super small cap, only 200 shares.

AAPL, cost $558.93 before earnings, shot up after earnings call but has been down. If it breaks <$560 I will look to buy more.

Shorts:

AMZN, thought they would miss on margins. Only 3 shares, loss of $80 so far.

ZSTN, cost $1.23, epic short, total fraud. People are trading it up and I keep adding.

GMCR, no brainer, cost $31.25 currently trading at $25.58, it probably trades down tomorrow.

FSLR, cost $18.01, currently trading at $16.65, Probably look to cover tomorrow in stages. 1000 shares, look to cover 100 shares at a time as it goes down.

I have 4 other small caps that I can’t disclose because of professional reasons. Most of my book throws the Defcon 1 risk switch in Dr Big Boss’s space ship, but he loves it when I win.  He’s way better himself, he’s a value guy, one day he will have a post like Kuppy.

  1. Rhino, you are absolutely correct about our country. I would enjoy reading a entire piece just on your 2nd paragraph, please consider elaborating on how our country rewards the lazy (unemployed) and punishes (taxes) those who work and create ideas.

#FUCKSFMTA I lived in San francisco from 2005-2010 during business school and I probably gave SFMTA and tow companies upwards of +5K.

    • I plan too, just am crazy busy and have parents coming in to town. Keep up the good fight and don’t let the Marin hippies get you down.

    • tapeguy, where did you go to B school in SF if you don’t mind me asking?

just curious because I’ve lived here a long time with a lot of friends in B school here so wouldn’t be surprised if we knew each other or had some mutual friends.

  2. Nice post Rhino, keep it up, they are good reads. I like the write-style. Keep chargin'(And risk managing). Cheers!

  3. Whats the weather like in SF lately?
    (jealous)

    • been really really nice surprisingly in SF. I seriously think the best way to be long energy is to just buy SF property away from the water. Aside from the weather, it’s one of the best cities in the world imo. Once we start getting Miami weather from global warming it’s going to be awesome.

      • HAHAHA! Yeah it is gorgeous in my hood, I’ve been doing some HW in the back yard in the sun, with the dogs. The problem is that it is a city of micro-climates, so it might be 70 and sunny at my place but 60 and foggy at DrBigBoss’ which is all of 8miles away.

        • Not to mention that I live RIGHT on the water, so the offshore starts blowing at about 2pm, like 10-20knots.

          • best weather in the whole city is always in Hunters Point too, great place if you don’t mind rabid gang violence, crack heads and living literally on a toxic waste dump. Rent is pretty cheap though and it’s sunny.

    • It’s the marine layer – everyday from 4pm to 11pm… IMHO SF is the epitome of failed post-modern liberal ideology. From crony-corporate handouts, to corrupt politicians (think willie brown, nancy pelosi, gruesome newsome), to rabid anti-business regulations, to sky high taxes (healthy sf?!), to an abusive and corrupt enforcement cartel (SFPD, SFMTA), to destruction of constitutional rights (2nd in particular). I could wax poetic of the holier than thou attitude most residents have, and the supposed “open and progessive” culture that allows 100% personal expression, EXCEPT WHEN THEY DON’T AGREE WITH IT (GMOs, small government, gun rights, anti-union, etc…)

  4. cost of tickets in SF is just completely detached from reality and is borderline criminal imo.

    car is blocking a driveway?
HOW ABOUT IT COSTS YOU $700

doesn’t the city realize this is just a CRIPPLING BLOW to a working mom or to anyone who doesn’t work for GS?

    totally insane.

PS: time to hook that nitrous up on the camaro now that it’s been “unbooted”

    • I literally just took it off on Saturday because I have to get a smog again WTF? I gotta do some work on it too. Driver’s window switch/motor is burned out, I need to do the brakes, plugs, oil, then I need to install the window switch and fix the arming switch/purge button that I broke while working on wiring in the center console. Tina’s Dad has an amazing setup by the way, huge air compressor and every tool you could ever need. We mounted the front plate and took the nitrous off in like 30min.

    • Dude, agree 100%. CA has been fleecing middle/lower class motorists for years! Outrageous registration fees, taxes, penalties and requirements. Red light camera fines at almost $500 (after ~$250 goes to the company operating the cameras). Ridiculous fines for moving and parking violations. CA needs a way to generate revenue to fund their massive public employee unions, which consumes almost 85% of state and local budgets.

  5. I, too, can’t understand society’s fascination with things that are just so fucking boring (i.e. Kim Kardashian). Last night, while paying for groceries, I noticed that she is allegedly pregnant…but it’s NOT Kanye’s baby. OMG WTF?!???!!?11?/

That no-talent hack had better hold onto her 15 minutes like grim death.

FWIW, I have really been enjoying the content here in the blogger network. This site has always set a very high standard for literary and market knowledge, so I’m not at all surprised that there were some good writers lurking out there ready to share their thoughts. Props to the iBC overlords with this newest site evolution…great stuff.

    • It is awesome to have an outlet to prove one’s self, in a literary sense. I wish people cared more about the things that matter in life, instead of celebs and their measly existences.

    • this is the best finance site hands down on the internets, the only one i check daily
