Hunched Men in Dark Vests Ran Wild O’er All the Field…

Just a quick word from York, as I’m on “clean-up duty” this evening and I’ve a whole Town Councill of village elders to hang from the parapets before I’ll see my cot.

If that’s not enough, I’m told there are three trebuchet that need re-stringing and I’ll be damned if I know where I’ll find good, cured cat-gut this late in the Northern English Autumn.

But all that aside, let’s look at what the sacking of today’s hard currency markets, by way of our friend [[HUI]] .   The pullback, as shown by the long term weekly, was something to see:

hui_weekly1

If you were thinking of taking a bite out of some Jacksons or other PM’s you’ve missed — like Exeter Resource Corp. [[XRA]] and Allied Nevada Gold Corp. [[ANV]] on the gold side and Silver Wheaton Corp. (USA) [[SLW]] or [[CDE]] on the silver side — you might want to watch that strong (61.8%) fib line as your trigger zone.

Worse come to worse, I think the 34-week moving average will serve as support as well.

We’re relatively oversold on the Jackson side, and The Andersons, Inc. [[ANDE]] has held up well.   Teck Cominco Limited (USA) [[TCK]] is probably good for a snapback tomorrow as well.

Last, it looks like Monsanto Company [[MON]] has had enough, and this $70 level has held up well on the weekly chart in the past.  Could be worth an “accumulate” at these levels.   Remember — this is a “grandchild” stock.

Ciao for now.

I See a Red Door…

REd door

Giants got drubbed for their first loss of the year. Ed Hochule’s crew called the worst game I’ve ever seen (the “phantom hold” call negating a brilliant Jacobs catch in the end zone will be talked about for years to come), but even without that egregious Carlos Marcello-like fix, I don’t think the Giants could have stanched such a brilliant performance by Drew Brees.

Conclusions?  New Orleans is for real and the Giant secondary is extremely suspect after this week.

Now I will retreat into my sweat lodge to meditate on the coming days of trading.

{Aside to Fly — you are invited. It looks like the Titans may want to de-list this year.}

Staring At Goats

The New Official iBC Theme Movie?

________________________________________________________

No, this is no well-deserved reference to the Red Sawx or the Twinkies, or even the misbegotten Mets.

It’s what I’ll be doing to pass the time until Christmas.   I’ll be staring at goats, shepherds and large carafes of homemade plum wine.

Because I’m looking at the Jacksonian Core Portfolio here — up 44.7% since May 1st and going higher — and I’m saying… why would I want to screw up a good thing, ovah heah, fretting about short term nary and sally?

I just got back from checking out all their daily charts, and… you know what?  They’re all overbought almost to a man.

Normally, I’d  be all “where’s my exit” on stuff like that, but… you know what?  See above.

Goats, shepherds… plum wine til Christmas.   Abide.

Tick off a BearTard, Join the PPT

 Bearplant

First, let’s get something straight: There’s nothing wrong with being bearish when the time is appropriate, and there’s no saying now’s not the time to be appropriately bearish.

But it’s never appropriate to be a perma-bear, a.k.a. “BearTard,” which is really more about personal philosophy than it is an investment thesis.   You see,  for beartards, making money is secondary, and maybe even tertiary.

You see, for Beartards, it’s about being smarter than everyone else.   It’s about the prickly, wounded pride.  It’s about revelling in your misanthropy.  It’s all about “the club.”

Let me tell you, you let yourself get like this, and you become like a piece of bloody chum to the sharks of the Street.    The edge traders will see you coming with your pocket protectors and your high waisted pants from two blocks away.   They love you guys like the West Harlem street corner three card monte grifters love the dewlapped big-talking college freshman who appear every Fall at Columbia University.

“Exhibit A” and “Exhibit B” are the two biggest beartard sites– you know who they are–  who have been accumulating lemmings almost as fast as they’ve been driving them off the white cliffs of Dover.   Think about how much money these sites have cost people on a cumulative basis since March.   And we’re talking thousands of people.   It’s near-Madoffian  in its scope.

And yeah, I know misery loves company, but someone who makes themselves intentionally miserable by railing against the trend, well… this is when “thesis” turns to “pathology.”   And this is not time to be investing for companionship and even comraderie — there are bookclubs for that.

No, The PPT offers you an alternative — even if you are a recovering Teethgnasher from one of the Lemming Sites.   You see, The PPT is made up of a group of hard core traders interested not in showing you how smart they are, or how many geometrical glissades they can pull out of a 60-day chart, but in only one thing — putting coin in the bank, kruggerand-style.

So indulge yourself, in bear and bull trades as you see fit.   But do it in a environs that will constantly challenge you to re-assess and re-evaluate your every position.   I promise you– will never feel fully comfortable within the confines of The PPT.

But let me tell you this as well — that discomfort will serve your portfolio– and your family’s fortune — in a far better stead than those alternative “ego sites.”

Slange.

Jacksonian Addendum: Watch for pullbacks this week, especially in the gold and silver arenas.   I will be announcing my moves early — on The PPT, of course — and then here.   We are getting to a crucial period in the cycle, and I want you all to be at your most nimble.

On the Important Matter of the New York Football Giants

Jake

It’s the beginning of the glorious football season — the greatest game played in America by a huge margin…

And I don’t want to hear any whining, baseball freaks. Your sport is for fat people who spit for a higher percentage of the game than they engage in any aerobic activity. Sure, baseball pitchers certainly exert themselves for a couple of innings a game, but in recompense they get the next four or five days off. Give me a break. Soon your game will be eclipsed by lacrosse, a version of football played with sticks.

Where was I? Oh yeah, the beginning of the glorious football season. What is the essence of great football? I proffer it is a great running game and a great defense. For all my life, the New York Football Giants have only been good when they’ve combined these two factors, both in my teen and college years when they won their first two Superbowls, and more recently in 2008, when they won their third.

With 6’4″ 265 lb RB  Brandon Jacobs as our Killdozer , and the midget cannonball Ahmad Bradshaw as our speedy second running back (not to mention the utility man Danny Ware to fill in for both), I think we have the excellent running game covered for yet another year.   A very workman-like run-oriented offensive line aslo does great work in the trenches for this aspect of our game.

I think this strong running attack will also make up for our weaknesses in the passing game with the recent loss of leg shooting idiot WR, Plaxico Burress.  Who knows?  This may be the year that WR Sinorice “Licorice” Moss finally breaks out and fulfills the promise of his Miami University WR days.   Same goes with Mario Manningham (of Michigan fame) and rookie first round draft pick WR,  Hakeem Nicks.

The real question this year will be the usually solid Giants defense.   First, our great defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnulo, whom the Giants paid a head coaching salary ($3 million) last year just so he’d stay, is finally gone, to the St. Louis Rams as their new head coach.  Our new guy is the former linebacker’s coach under Spags, Bill Sheridan.  He knows Spags system, so let’s hope we do not miss a step here in the coaching department.  Still, it’s hard to lose such a beloved charismatic coach, and the Giants are known for letting great defensive coordinators go on to glory — from Tom Landry to Bill Bellichek to John Fox, and of course, combined dee coordinator and head coach, Bill Parcells.  I hated to lose Spags, no matter the consequences.   I’m confident he’ll be successful.

I think our defensive line–with stars such as Osi Uminora, Justin Tuck, and  Mathias Kiwanuka on the ends, and Barry Cofield, Fred Robbins, and Chris Canty playing tackle– will be solid.  Same goes with our secondary led by CB’s Corey Webster and Aaron Ross, and hit machine strong safety Kenny Phillips.

No, if we’re going to have problems, it will be in our soft linebacking corps.  I am loathe to say it, but the the team that spawned the all time greatest linebacker, Lawrence Taylor, not to mention Hall of Famer’s Harry Carson and Sam Huff, is really hurting for quality linebackers these days.   Here’s hoping second round draft pick Clint Sintim can step in soon, because I’m not feeling good about aging jorneyman Danny Clark and gun-shot abettor Antonio Pierce with perennial over-achiever and bench warmer Chase Blackburn completing our starting trio.   That screams lack of depth.

In any case, I love my Giants, flaws and all.   I expect their stock to rise in Jacksonian fashion, for they are, in tradition and legacy, the NFL’s gold standard.  Let the game’s begin.

Never, Never Forget

towers

Dedicated to the memory of Matt G and John W, two young fathers murdered by fell beasts on September 11th, 2001. May God bless them and their families, as well as the families of all those left grieving that day.

Your turn with the ball now, hippies, don’t drop it.
