Exercise Yo Franchise!

 Uncle Sam

_________________________________________

I just voted and it was like nothing I’ve ever seen at my polling place, and I’m including Presidential elections in that analysis.  There was even an accident in the parking lot because the place (it’s a large local Temple) is just not set up to accomodate that kind of traffic.

You had blue haired matrons bedecked in clanky gold bracelets and nose-pierced twenty-somethings smelling of day old Marlboros and Drank trying to negotiate the vast morass of eager to vote-humanity.

It’s a beautiful thing.

That’s our democracy at work, and whatever our outcome today, you gotta love it.  It’s good to see people fired up and  involved in the process, because no matter what the cynical (mostly young) people say on these here internets, it does matter, and your vote can bring change to our on-the-ropes Republic.

If you don’t believe that, just look at what Nancy and Harry and Mr. Obama have done in four short years.   That’s a lot of repair work ahead of us, here in the U.S.   I know some of my wiser non-American correspondants also understand how critical this election is for their respective Free World countries as well.

Of course, we have our clueless-statist element here too.  I’m afraid they will be with us until the prospect of free money no longer becomes appealing.

But enough of that.  Today we have a chance to strike a blow for sovereign independence, property rights and limited government, so let’s take this golden opportunity to do so.

Use that franchise wisely!

Request: I am curious to hear what you are all seeing at your polling places.  So if it’s not too much trouble, if you are an American, here or overseas, please let me know in the comments section a) if you have voted today (or by absentee) and b) what your polling place looked like today (disclose your location as much as you feel comfortable).

Thanks in advance and God Bless America… we sure do need it right now.

No bumper stickers for me anymore. I learned that lesson when some evil lib keyed my car during the Bush years.

You libs are bats, truly. Of course I wasn’t happy two years ago! The bad guys snuck one by that year.

But let’s see what today brings… my faith in the wisdom of the American people — who seem to have finally put down the People and Newsweek Magazines — may be restored!

That the military votes overwhelmingly GOP probably has NOTHING to do with it.

I want to say that it is impressive to see/hear the enthusiasm about casting your ballots. I lived in the USofEh during the Reagan years so experienced a couple of elections. Both Dem’s and Rep’s conviction to their causes was/is remarkable => Polarization? I prefer to think it as deep seated dedication to the respective positions. I would just like to see a more workable post-election model that brings about a more productive approach to dealing with some very serious situations. I take a lot of liberties in “pointy-stickin” Ahmarkans, but it’s just because you’re easy targets because you’re still the biggest kid in the 3rd grade. Good luck with whatever the election outcome brings you; and Jake never stop advancing your cause.

Linda was relentless with the ads. I think that hurt her, especially with women and middle of the road Republicans (think Chris Shays supporters) which we have a lot of up here. Blumenthal had negatives (especially some actions which hurt small businesses) which she never addressed. She tried to do the “softer side” late in the campaign, but it came across pretty lame.

Her best ad was a clip from a debate, where Blumenthal tried to explain how to create a job. I still think if Rob Simmons had run a proper campaign early on, he would have won the nomination and been able to beat Blumenthal. Apparently, Linda did the leg work with the local town committees, and had the nomination wrapped up before the convention.

Meg I actually like and respect her business acumen, but am a little concerned about her jumping to the big stage (CA Gov) as a first foray into politics. I like the idea of successful corporate execs involved in our govt and am pretty sick of career politicians who are not held accountable.

I wouldn’t classify Fiorina as a successful exec and I wouldn’t classify Boxer as a successful politician, so we all lose.

Besides, I’m sick of dropping thousands of dollars a year to support the pay of some liberal indoctrination program masquerading as an education. That college in particular is more interested in counting the color and sex organs of its students than teaching them. You cut funding and they have to suddenly axe programs which don’t deliver (poly sci, anyone?) and reinforce the quality (like medical).

It’ll never go; too many people like educating the country’s students, even if none of them stick around. But maybe we can at least lower the amount of funding and force some of the hard core aging SDS type professors out?

What is sad though is that there are a lot realities based on the characters of the Wire. For example, I believe that Tommy Carcetti is meant to be a caricature of Governor O Malley (he was mayor before becoming governor) and that Nerese Campbell is meant to be a caricature of former mayor Shelia Dixon (she was thrown out for stealing giftcards). I feel assured Barbara Mukulski and Steny Hoyer are honest public servants LOL!

Yeah, I got the feeling that a lot of that stuff was pulled from real life, hence the immediacy of it all.

Clay Davis was my favourite character with that trademark line. My wife is still getting over the death of Stringer Bell (but he has a new show on BBC called “Luther” which I’ve been meaning to catch).

Never seen Weeds, and it’s never really appealed to me… I like straight crime stories, I guess, and making light comedy about drug dealing isn’t a good fit for me, I think.

It is unfortunate how the Wire resembles reality. There all a bunch of crooks. Clay Davis is awsome! The Wire took a different direction after Stringer got killed. Weeds is meant to be more of a comedy. That new show Boardwalk Empire is great.

It was still dark out when I voted… lazy mofo’s won’t get out of bed so it wasn’t crowded at all. There were eight folks there voting, me included.

West Palm Beach; 20 or so minutes ago — staffed by blue hairs that can’t read your drivers license number or name; always.

The Crowd–pissed off / unemployed / U6ed / soccer moms/ dads / foreclosed, but rentin a phat 3/2 condo in classic Dem westside territory. Just as far as I can tell. The biggest crowd I’ve seen in 2 or so general elections and midterms.

Boyz, can’t call a direction from the crowd but looks like somethings up bigtime on the emotional get-out-and-vote front. They don’t usually drag their butts out to fill in those arrows with the Sharpie at this time of the day.

What do you think of Scott’s chances? I was surprised to see him behind.

Dirty laundry, but that has never stoped voters…Sink was a prior manager of the retirement fund and didn’t get along with Jeb and the boys on the committee. Education lobby and state workers have huge money/lobby on Sink.

Voted just outside Atlanta, red zone country. Turnout was twice last election according to poll worker. I did find a place to park. Not huge crowds, but steady.

Just voted up here in the west village. Solid turnout. Nothing crazy though. I think everyone knows the outcome is a foregone conclusion in NY. The choice between a life-long politician in baby cuomo (ugh) or an episode of loony tunes, crazy carl.

    I’ll take option C*
