Is he too fat to be President?
___________________
Governor Christie of New Joisey (that of the Short Hills Mall) rocks, plain and simple. He is the fat, sweaty Tony Soprano Reagan of our time. He doesn’t take the schinola from the mealy mouthed press looking to characterize him, and he doesn’t take any crap from public service union hacks:
[youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0Nqk9e1kfY 450 300]That’s some serious Porky v. Porky action there, but the diff is — Govenor Porky really wants to peel the pork back from the bloated Jersey public sector. Even better– he’s succeeding! What better crusader could we enlist to take on the corrupt SEIU and the other public service unions living off the transference of our tax dollars?
In weeks ahead, I will likely be focused on electoral issues, as we head into the extremely crucial mid-term elections of 2010. But whatever may happen on that date, we will still have the failed Obama Administration to cope with. That means we need to start thinking about potential Presidential aspirants also — and I’m not just talking about Hillary.
We’ll have two years to figure out who best to put against the demagogic Messiah. As I’ve mentioned to some, my personal choice is Mitch Daniels, the spectacular former mayor of Indianapolis and now Governor of Indiana. Daniels took 80% of the Indiana vote in 2008 — the same year that Obama won in Indiana. He is a special guy and very competent.
But I wanted to start out by looking at the Fat Man, because he too rocks. Those of you closer to the Metropolitan area may wish to comment, but from what I’ve seen thus far, I really like this guy’s political charisma. One last before I go. This may be him at his best in “telling it how it is” —
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ksLlAi3iIc&NR=1 450 300]God Bless you, Jersey, you may finally have a great one after a long time in the wilderness.

Gold should be pulling back here (finally). Hang tight, as I don’t think it’s going to be much. I will let you know when I release the hedges on ANV and SLW.
Best to you all.

I do like him. Real guy
He’s quite good for the camera, too, isn’t he? Sort of a bit of Fiorello La Guardia in him.
Now we just have to find him a big-ass halibut!
__________
We need him for a second term.
Too much still needs to be done
Guy’s an animal… rare to find a politician who will speak up and make sense at the same time
Jake – got one last month in Alaska = 185lbs – damn near as big as the fat guy. We need this guy in Canuckistan.
Canada — the land of the inimitable Mark Steyn — is quite a conundrum. Almost every Canadian I know is conservative. I’m sure that’s some of the old “Pauline Kael Syndrome,” but how is it there are almost zero conservative politicians in Canada?
_________,
Jake – it’s a small “c” thing here. While I’m Canuckistani, I lived in NC for some time and did a fair bit of work for Sen Helms. I just can’t see the over the top stuff = Rush; (some of) Tea Party playing up here; even in Alberta where we’ve had a Conservative gubmnint for 40 years.
BTW – Mrs and Mademoiselle Chuck are in Nooo Yawk spending some of that dirty oil sands $$$$ trying to stimulate Governor Christy’s neighbors economy.
So how’s the GOM doing? Looking forward to some blue water fishing when it gets colder up here.
I expect it will be fine by the time you get down here this winter. Florida didn’t really get hit too hard, and Naples are got zero as far as I know.
They will appreciate your near-parity Canuckistani bucks down there, though, so spend freely.
______
Did you write this from the convenience of your hot air balloon Babar?
Que???
___
It’s a French children’s tale about an elephant (see the RNC connection?) named Babar who leaves the jungle, visits a big city, and returns to bring the benefits of civilization to his fellow elephants. Then he comes back and becomes king of the elephant kingdom. He has children and teaches them valuable lessons.
Quite a good allegory, unfortunately not received.
My kids have all the Babar books, so I got to the RNC – elephant connection, but everything else.. lol.
Sometimes your frequency is too high for even me to hear, Kenneth.
________
Can we trade Brown & Whitman (we’ll throw in Pelosi too) for him to save us in CA???
I feel for California. They have been in the wasteland for so long.
Like in ancient England, they await their Arthur — Ronald Reagan — to return from Avalon. Not sure if its going to happen.

This is the best Hugh Hendry interview I’ve ever heard: http://www.kingworldnews.com/kingworldnews/Broadcast/Entries/2010/9/28_Hugh_Hendry.html
Why do people keep pushing these King World links on my blog? Didn’t King World use to do game shows or something? The name sounds so familiar.
_____
they’re pm friendly.
But as requested, you’ll get no more of those links from me.
I don’t have a problem with them… just curious, as I’ve done some deals in the media industry, and I only remember King World from the Merv Griffen Enterprises days.
That is, if its the same outfit.
_________
Most notable contribution to the entertainment industry was their syndication rights to “The Little Rascals.”
That’s it … Jeopardy and The Wheel
Yeah, but has he ever busted a cap in a coyote’s ass while on a jog; or threatened to secede from the Union? Didn’t think so.
Rick Perry > Fat Boy
QED.
Note this is in NO WAY an endorsement of Perry. I was just pointing out that when it comes to being outspoken or other bizarre behavior your NJ governor does not have a corner on the market. Perry is looney tunes fo sho.
Perry is just Old School Texas, son… that doesn’t go over as well as “fat Goombah” does in Jersey.
Texas has always considered itself a separate country, even after joining the union, and busting caps in coyotes is just weekend time passin’ material down there.
______
Texas is a helluva a place but Perry wouldn’t survive a primary in Jersey. I can tell you we have a lot of respect for fat boy and what he is doing in a state like New Jersey.
Remember that quote from Charlie Wilson’s war?
I represent the only district in
America that doesn’t want anything.
They want their guns, they
want low taxes, that’s it.
That’s a beautiful thing.
Can we start a country w. the motto “Leave us the Eff Alone?”
_____
I did not expect Mr. Christie to be this effective and refreshing while watching the mud being slung during the campaign. It’s too bad we can’t get some of his common sense up here in the land of steady habits. Instead, we get mud wrestlers flicking boogers at each other, telling the electorate what they want to hear.
I heard the wrestler’s wife is only like four points off the Viet Nam Prevaricator. Can Connecticut pull it out?
_______
Love Gov. Christie.
Jake,
You need to write more frequently. Not only is your market analysis spot on but you’re commentary on other subjects is entertaining, to say the least, as well.
Mas articulos, por favor, Senor.
Appreciate it… Unfortunately (or fortunately, I guess), my work has gone old school on me lately, as in 24-7, weekends included, etc.
Will try to get out as much as I can.
_______
Cartoonish Tony Soprano pseudo-preacher in public service ? Couldn`t resist. Great blog.
Cartoon or not, he’s getting the job done against insurmountable odds. Can we say that much for the Empty Suit who has both Houses of Congress in his pocket?
______
I know you didn’t think MON would drop below fitty again but my 9th sense told me it was possible…think we get any/much lower short term?
Re-bought a bunch at $48.77.
They are starting to piss me off, especially since this news is on the traits side (as opposed to the cash cow Roundup run off), but given current valuations, I don’t see it getting much worse than this. Never say never, however. Again, we own this at $17, so you take the good w. the bad over the longer term…
___________
thinking of jumping in myself down here. clearly we are on the same warped wavelength.
Might want to wait a day or two to let it settle out.
_____
I thought my sale at $58 was quite prescient but i’m definitely a buyer down here, definitely will be adding below $49.
my initial buy (small) was at $63 so i’m just looking to ease my burden a bit.
Hatch on…
…$48.26 and sinking like a M. Night Shamalamadingdong movie
Perhaps i’ll heed Jake’s advice and wait til it “settles out” before adding.
put in a buy order for 47.51 yesterday but after watching it see saw all day, took it off as per jake’s advice.
low point yesterday – 47.50
lets see if she gets down there again.
beeep beeeep beeeep

Dollar through 79 on the index, !!!
There is support in the mid 78 area, be apprised.
_______
If you don’t get a bounce, what are you looking for on the downside of the index before you condemn the dollar for it’s next fall and repeal your hedges?
$77 should be the next support zone. Take a look back a week or two ago I posted a weekly dollar chart w. support and resistance levels.
______
Yes, I saw the chart. What I’m asking is What you need to see on the downside before you repeal your hedges so as to capture the full down move in the dollar. Or will you just hold the hedges until they expire if the dollar doesn’t bounce?
If we break $78, I’ll bail on the hedges. Or $1380 on the PoG.
_______
“And I make this promise to you today… if you like the healthcare plan you have today… you will be able to keep it!”
Filthy LIAR!
__________
BWAHAHAHA @ “Unlike the United States of America, the state of NJ can’t print money ma’am”….epic line.
Can we borrow him up? Here in the most unionized province/state in in norrh america: quebec.
Here up the crazies run the asylum. No jokes.
OMG can you imagine him going up against the FTQ or the CSN*? I would pay good money to see that… 🙂
*Two large Quebec unions
