A Last Stand Against Obamacare?

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TTC6FJphWA 450 300]

“Freedom,”  do you hear, it?

_________________________________________

The above well wishes may be outdated by the time of this posting, as there is a rumour (sic) that Representative Bart Stupak, one of the last principled Democrats, has succumbed to the bribe disease that has overtaken nearly every member of Congress, may Allah throw them all out on their patoots this coming November.

If that’s so, we’re cooked for long term, as the inevitable government imposed rationing takes hold, and destroys a vital part of our economy in the process.  Say goodbye to the solid, high quality healthcare you’ve enjoyed for so long, it’s about to be controlled by Health and Human Services.

And don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with rationing — it’s a natural economic process that occurs in all supply and demand-based transactions.   It happens in our interaction with health care service providers the same way it occurs in our other daily decisions.   Problem is, at this point in history the more natural flow of free market supply and demand that reflects efficient rationing in pricing has already been cast askew by government intervention in our health care system.  This has resulted in a limiting of service supply that has greatly overtaxed our provider community.

Unfortunately, the new top down mandates of Obamacare will only exacerbate that situation, as additional “insurance” recipients are added to the rolls, with no attendant increase in service providers or pricing (at least according to the Obamacare mandates).    This will result in exit by providers and service workers, a natural result of price fixing that we’ve seen exhibited in every situation where it’s been attemped.

If you take anything away from this piece, remember that “price fixing leads to shortages,”  as sure as extended drought leads to famine.   (Banque coin on it via The PPT.)

Trying to talk around such natural phenomenon is like arguing with a rock falling to the ground that he is being “bourgeoise” and “oppressive.”    In fact, it’s been a long time curiousity of mine why people would believe that natural economic processes that have been proven time and again over our recorded history, can somehow be evaded by the “right amount of state conviction.”   Marxism did not work for lack of trying, after all.

For those of you who understand rational market actions, there is some faint hope, however.

First, this bill may fall apart under the weight of judicial scrutiny, given the myriad bribes and singular giveaways that have been stuffed into it.   Second, the way this bill is looking to be semi-passed, via the “deeming” process Representative Slaughter has propose, may very well not stand Constitutional challenge.

Third, and probably most likely, the passing of this bill may well usher in a sea-change away from our current Big Government political trends.  Enough economically sapped and pissed off citizens have awoken to this hijacking of our Constitutional precepts that we may see a large scale revamping of Congress that renders President Obama the lamest of ducks, sends the far left Madame Pelosi back to the rear bench, and Harry Reid home for extended fishing in Lake Tahoe (with Fredo?).

If that in fact does happens, I look for a renaissance in the markets, much like we experienced after the 1994 elections, when Gingrich’s Revolution stopped Bill (and Hillary’s) Clinton’s earlier attempt to Alinsky-ize the country toward a permanently government-first economy.     I think we may also see a desparate Dem Congress, seeing the writing on the wall, try to break the massive groundswell against them by throwing bon bons to the economy and markets.   This could set up for an explosive combination come this summer.

Remember that markets are forward rationalizing, however, and that Barack Obama (thus far) has shown himself to be less pliant than Bill Clinton.   It’s very possible the best we can hope for, until 2012, is gridlock.

Given what we’ve withstood in the last year, that may very well be a balm.

Best to you all, and remember what Brooklyn’s finest said:

grandpaobama

Update:  “Deem and Pass Option May be Dead” according to WaPo report… I don’t take comfort in this however, if it’s coming from the Dems, as it likely means they have Stupak, and the other nays corralled and can pass it with a regular vote.   I cannot wait to see the chicanery results (ie, “the bribes”) that got this thing done…

I think they are counting on us not having enough votes to do that. We may have to wait until 2012 because Obama will not have the good sense to capitulate, like Clinton did.

According to the CBO, this reform will curve the current upwards trajectory course we are headed towards, saving this nation billions in the future. I trust the CBO over any media outlet, blog, commentator. Our current healthcare system is NOT the best in the world if you are not in the system. I am self employed, in NYS and healthcare for the individual is $1050.00 per month. I cannot afford that.

America needs reform in the system. Change is never easy and this loud uproaring is just the kind of reaction I am looking for. If it wasnt any kind of change, you wouldnt be getting this type of reaction. No president wants to deal with this and would rather do nothing during there presidency then cause this much controversy. I much rather have a president who does something instead of nothing. The American people voted for President Obama. We won. We want the change and we are going to get it. The people who are causing this much noise are the tea party clowns who are clearly stupid, and the die hard republicans. Moderates and Democrats want this change. We won the election and we will get it, and yes, we will stuff it down your throat like it or not.

Besides whats 1 trillion dolllars? Its not going to bankrupt us. We will be fine. We have spent close to a trillion on the Iraq and Afgan wars and we are fine. So all this fearmongering that we are going to fail is even more bs. 10 years from now? Want to know whats changed?

We will have a system closer to Canadas, Britain, and France. With everyone having healthcare. The nation will also be fine. None of this armaggeddon bullshit will happen. I remember when the Dow was dropping and Glenn Beck did the war room with Dow 400. Not 4000, 400. Nuff said. LOL

I don’t think it will need to get that far.

These clowns have the support of almost no one, despite our Swiftian’s essay above.

The pain (if this is passed) will be in the waiting, as we may have to wait until 2012 to purge all of this crap.

And by then, Medicare could very well be bankrupt. We will have to watch out for our elderly keying the cars of anyone with a Dem pol /Obama! bumpersticker on their car.

“Say goodbye to the solid, high quality healthcare you’ve enjoyed for so long”, Man you must be joking or smoking something. Our health care deliberatly over delivers causing excessive unneeded costs and making it more and more unaffordable. Its the same greed as Wall Street and needs to be controlled. What’s coming through as a bill may be far from perfect but its a start and can be worked on over the years ahead by all parties.

Not that I disagree with Jake’s latest political rant; I don’t ….. but where was all the moral, ethical, financial and practical outrage when we were gonna blow innocents to smithereenes in Iraq, kill & disfigure American soldiers, and blow a trillion dollars that we couldn’t afford?

We all let that slip by but when we are gonna blow a trillion on life affirming and life saving, there’s a grassroots citizen revolt.

Okay, there’s a couple of logical fallacies embedded in this inquiry.

The first is that there’s some justification for bad policy because of some past bad policy. Ever hear of two wrongs don’t make a right?

Second, since we are talking about the role of the Federal government in our citizen’s lives, we can certainly point to defense of the citizenry as a delineated power of the Federal government. Paying for citizens expenses, whether in health care, food or shelter, has never been contemplated as a role of our intentionally limited government.

Moreover, voting to expend on defense– especially with regard to a war — infers some limited timeframe for that expenditure. Not so, however, with regard to another permanent entitlement that will becomed embedded in our budgetary infrastructure going forward. Even the very expensive Viet Nam War and WWII eventually ended.

Last, please do recall that, despite all the moaning and shrieking of the Democrats after the Iraq War actually got started, the vote to go to war was very much bipartisan. This horror show is not only NOT bipartisan, but the huge majority the Democrats are currently enjoying has not been enough to make this thing an easy sell.

That should tell you a lot. Never in our history have we had such an odious piece of government permanent spending — spending that attacks a whole sector of the economy — passed using such a narrow and precarious uni-partisan majority.

First of all, there is never such a thing as ‘permanent’ spending. Anything can be overturned or altered come the next administration.

            I wasn’t suggesting 2 wrongs make a right.

I do think basic needs of people; food, clothes, healthcare, shelter, education should be helped along by government if some can’t afford them. The hallmark of great nations are how they care for their poorest & neediest. This don’t mean that everyone is entitled to McMansions, a Ford Escape Hybrid, 2 inch ribeyes dinners, True Religion jeans, Harvard MBA’s , etc …. but at least a shack with clean water, a means to grow their own food, donated clothing, etc .

One political party is as bad as the other. Though I did like the guy you cited in the c-span vid. Good man. Clear, intelligent, sharp … vs that old hag that was in his face.

Healthcare needs to be hammered out together, by all sides instead of being forced through before its ready, just because Obamas in a rush to get something done. Imo, Obama wants to work with all, but so many are aligned against him that bipartisanship is a pipe dream. And frankly, we have a bunch of incompetents in our government, voted in by us.

It’s also worth pointing out that, with regards to the whole WMD fiasco, we (including the same asshole Democrats who spent the last 6-7 years making the Iraq war extremely unpopular after voting for it) still made the right choice to invade.

We knew that previously Sadam Hussein had WMD’s, since he used them against Iran in the Iran-Iraq War. We knew someone from the region was trying to kill us. We knew Saddam had networks that were dedicated to that same cause. And, finally, we knew he said he still had WMD’s.

The only thing we didn’t know was that he was lying because he was afraid of the mullah’s. If we had we probably would have hit Iran.

And then Pelosi could be bitching about the unjust Iran war, when there were such villains as Sadam Hussein running around…

That’s just crazy. “We knew someone from the region was trying to kill us?” And that’s reason to attack a country? By that reasoning you should carpet bomb whichever state the Oklahoma City bombers were from. Someone from that region was trying to kill you too. Everyone knows that going after Iraq was pre-planned from well before Cheney took office. Then they ordered the CIA to find a reason, and when they couldn’t, they invaded anyway.

If any country should be invaded because they support terrorism it should be Saudi Arabia. The Wahhabis fund most Islamic terrorist networks. What’s that you say? The Bush family is close friends with the royal Saudis? I see.

No, I have no problem going into Saudi Arabia and dragging fanatics out by their hair.

And Oklahoma didn’t claim or hint at responsibility for 9-11. Hussein’s regime, in the process of refusing U.N. admittance and acting ultra suspicious, essentially did.

We told him what would happen.

            1) We were not defending our country from terrorism by “occupying” Iraq … that was about oil …. did we declare war on Iraq? No!

            2) Our “war on terrorism” is not a US problem but a global problem yet we (US taxpayers) pay the majority of the freight for that … How come? Cause we are the world’s peace keeper? At whose expense …. where’s China & India on this?

            3) Bipartisan support was garnered by Bush’s misrepresentation to our legislature regarding WMD …. remember????

Rand … that’s the essence of insurance, spreading the risk. By insuring all people the costs are spread evenly rather than the insured paying disproportionally to cover the uninsured as is the case now. The hope is that once all people our in the system the costs will even out and pre-treatment or prevention will succeed in lowering future costs. But even those that cannot afford it must pay what they can just like a co-pay so that no one takes it for granted or thinks of it as an entitlement … all must contribute.

Teahouse — unfortunately, the legislation in question grabs the worst of both worlds. It allegedly mandates insurance (unconstitutional, btw) but only imposes a small fee for not complying.

So, a rational actor would naturally pay that fee for the years he’s healthy, then take the “no rejection” route for “insurance*” once he actually gets sick. Whatta country!

This is a recipe for a bankrupt system, unfortch.

    Jake,

Just one word – why? What was your point with this post? It is just one long partisan fluff piece that still does not answer the question “who are you, what do you believe in, and how do we get there”. It’s the same-ol-sht with you pal, attack, attack, attack – using fear mongering and a weak nexus that falls of its own weight. Let’s begin with the fear mongering:

    – “…we’re cooked for a long time.”
    – “…inevitable government rationing takes hold.”
    – “…destroys a vital part of our economy in the process.”
    – “Say goodbye to solid, high quality healthcare you’ve enjoyed…”

The last point is a hoot. The last time the WHO ranked the world systems, we (the USA in case you doubt where I am from) came in 37th behind Finland, Costa Rica, Saudi Arabia, etc. Your standards are pretty low my man. This statement is symptomatic of the virus that flows through your veins – make shit up, ignorant followers will believe it.

The paragraph on rationing is akin to listening to Greenspan spew on about his market philosophy. Let’s not forget the following http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oLHfKjiQew . This paragraph on your market philosophy is pure filler in an attempt to use college level transitions in your writing.

The very next paragraph cites an article from The Medicus Firm, which is a national physician search firm (A NATIONAL PHYSICIAN SEARCH FIRM!), is frequently cited by right wingers to support their healthcare position especially when it comes to the claim that doctors will flee our system once the bill is passed. Bill O’Reilly is one such Medicus Fan. This same argument is being used by the right when it comes to “too big to fail”. Jake – you really need to stop watching Fox. Read a book or two – mix it up a bit. Remember, the healthcare industry has paid over 200 million to lobby against the bill. Don’t get suckered into their propaganda. BTW, the survey that the Medicus Firm conducted has already been found to be unscientific. Dude, look behind the curtain every now and then.

The price fixing follow-up paragraph to the Medicus smoke-n-mirrors is another weak attempt to draw market talk/conditions/beliefs into the health care discussion so that you don’t appear to be totally political with your post (or so that you can show creative paragraph transitions – I haven’t figured it out yet). The nexus is weak and you put no meat on the bones. Just relying on the feeble minded to take your leap of logic and say “’ummmm…yeah, that’s right.”

You then move back to political attacks with your falling rock metaphor that just crashes to earth. If a rock falls in the forest and no one is there, does it make a sound? You seem puzzled by the notion that we just don’t understand that an unfettered free market is the way to go. Please – spare me with this free-market crap. In case you forgot already – see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oLHfKjiQew .

The remainder of your article deals with patronizing “hope” – the audacity! However, it could only possibly be understood by “…those of you (that) understand rational market systems…” That is, for those of us that don’t drink from Jake’s cup-o-cool aid, then, well you are just not understanding, advocates of rational, free market systems. Lol – what a hoot.

The post was a fair attempt at composing an argument with college level structure that would have gotten you a B- in English; however, I am certain your poly sci professor would have given you a C- due to lack of non-partisan supporting facts, lack of argumentative depth, and lack of a coherent nexus throughout the write up. However, with that said, I am certain there are many out there that just say “agreud!”.

Lol. Cognitive dissonance is a funny thing, isn’t it, Lungsac?

Let me just say I’m glad you really didn’t mean it when you complained about political discussions on this site. It turn out- given the prodigious nature of this response– that your true plaint was that you didn’t like the nature of the political speech on this site– namely that which takes your liberal sensibilities to task, and more often than not finds them wanting.

Now that we’ve got that settled, we can take on the talking points you’ve re-gurged above, often in a rather nasty tone, I’ll note. However, the Crackberry is not good for rebutting the more long-winded replies, so it will have to wait until this middle school lax game is over, and I can get to a keyboard.

      Hold tight! 😉

Alvari, I want to comment on the WHO’s ranking system, since there seems to be a lot of referencing to that load of garbage. In order to create that statistical ranking, they use a procedure known as the “amenable mortality rate”. Instead of looking at the raw statistics from life or death, they look at those same statistics through an extremely biased lense, or weighted average system; where any death that could conceivably have been prevented by some sort of “healthcare” immediately increases the prevalence of the death.

However, death that occurs under healthcare coverage is less important because…umm, they tried.

We had a discussion about this under one of Woodshedder’s posts months ago. You can’t trust the likes of the WHO because they ideologically favor healthcare, regardless the actually, realistic implications.

Alvari -Right on the money. right on all account.

most of Jake’s arguments and rhetorical skills are so preposterous that i don’t bother anymore. Jake’s a troll, but a troll with a blog spot. so in a sense… what can you do? that’s his space, his soap box.

btw, isn’t it ironic that price fixing is a policy often used with agriculture productions. successfully! saving local productions from monoculture and bubble and busts cycles and as such saving population from destruction of their agriculture economy. therefore, local protection from starvation.

but anyway… to keep it at a level most understand.. what-eva..

Indie, sorry, still at the lax game, but a quick question.

Should I bother to respond to your personal attack or will you take an evisceration of your troll-mate, Alvari’s, paper thin ad homenum “arguments” as sufficient?

Because if you like, we can have an argument about how “beneficial” agricultural price fixing has been for the small American farmer vs. say, Archer Daniels Midland.

Let me just add, through aching thumbs, that your accusations of “trolldom” in a wholly ad homenum, factless and idea-free response to my posting, represents the most ne plus ultra example of hypocritical, un-self aware leftist irony I’ve seen since Alvari appeared/was banned/appeared again.

You two should take this comedy act on the road.

price fixing isn’t profitable to all. nor is an all out solution. actually, it can often be hijacked and screw up the party for everybody else. However, laissez-faire can lead to the worst that can happen; the destruction of a local farming economy. some kind of price fixing can be part of a sound agricultural policy to preserve your population from ever starving.

Just as the unemployed, under-employed & self-employed in MA have to cover themselves the Fed’l plan will be similar I suspect in that even here (MA) , those on limited budgets are offered the coverage based on their ability to pay and those unemployed are provided coverage at a minimum via the state’s dept of unemployment.

My smartass answer is to do like I did. I got laid off in Dec. 08 and started my own business in Jan. 09. I worked my ass off to identify and exploit opportunities and made more money last year than I ever had before. I took a big risk and laid my balls on the line and kicked ass. I work for myself and am my own boss.

I now believe that unemployment benefits only serve to suppress creativity and ingenuity, the backbone of what built this country.

A good idea might be to stop wasting your time blistfully arguing on blogs and become creatively productive.

Look, I have a friend here that is getting coverage from the Dept of Unemployment and she says it’s like $100-150/month based on the amount of unemployment comp she receives yet her husband is fully employed but his plan will only cover himself and one dependent so their one child is covered on his plan which puts them in this predicament. I’m sure the federal plan will have safety nets for those deserving … don’t be so cynical until you’ve gotten all the details.

BTW, that’s exactly the problem with this new health plan and all the feared opposition … there are just too many unanswered questions for the public to decide. Fear mongering by the right has brought out the typical human response … “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” but deep down we all know it really is broken, admit it!
