… sacrificing the white queen was the masterpiece of it all.  We all like a good queen sacrifice.  Lesson:  sometimes you have to lose some gains in order to make “the big one.”

I am an active trader within the IBD100 because they provide a great place to search for CANSLIM-worthy and momentum swing trading stocks.  Hence, I decided to merge the IBD100 with The PPT engine.  I listed only the “hybrid” score (which is a combo score of the Technicals and Fundamentals) and the buy/sell recommendation.  I think where The PPT prints a low score with a “strong sell” recommendation is also a great place for bears to start looking for some short ideas, because IBD100 stocks are usually high speculative stocks due to large increases in earnings.  I’m happy to see one of my favorite stocks I spotted a few months ago, Almost Family, Inc. [[afam]] , has made it to #2 on the IBD100 this week.  Anyway, check out the list.  I am releasing the top 25, and the other 75 throughout the week.  But before I do that, first a chess puzzle!  Answer coming later tonight, if no one is genius enough to figure it out…

Well, you all got that “gapped down” open I was alluding to, together with a better looking Vix spike to the high 80s, right at the open!  Today is a good opportunity to start some positions in oversold sectors for a possible relief rally.  Remember, keep the trade simple and set your stops to the day’s lows just in case it doesn’t work out.  Again, I am not saying its a good time to invest in the long term, but am just stating the possible ways to trade this market. 

The only thing holding me back from getting aggressive is we have the Fed meeting next Wednesday.  That brings the kind of volatility that shakes most traders out.

For now, we at least have 8256 on the Dow as a critical support.  Also, I am watching to see if the Dow can break 8457 near the close (which would be bullish).  Volume so far has been very light, so we could see some velocity into the final hour.

Fed to meet next week with talks of another half point cut.  Right now, its best to stay out of this market because news will trump all technicals.  Your guess is as good as mine, or better, and the market will not know how to react to the news.  The only technicals that will work are the extremely short term ones.  That means we’re heading to day-trading territory.
