A Tale About Flipping Off the Bulls

miami-heat

While there have been quite a few short opportunities this year, shorting the major indices and building or adding to a losing position in them has been a particularly losing strategy in 2013.

The woman above who flipped off a member of the Chicago Bulls last night at an NBA Playoff game in Miami might as well be a metaphor for the notion of building a short position or buying puts on the major averages without the stop-loss discipline to exit the trade this year.

Ironically, she has ties to finance.

The woman who shot the bird directly in his face following the Bulls’ historically lopsided 115-78 loss in Miami has been identified: Filomena Tobias, formerly Phyllis Tobias, neé Filomena Manente, of Jupiter, Florida.

Tobias is the widow of hedge fund manager and CNBC contributor Seth Tobias. Mr. Tobias, her fourth husband, was found dead in the swimming pool of his Jupiter, Florida mansion in 2007. Stop here if you want “mere decadence,” and do not want to hit the throttle and soar into “purely Floridian insanity,” because that is where it is headed.

Filomena Tobias Got Four Rich Dudes To Marry Her And You Are Still Single

Filomena “Phyllis” Tobias had a rocky relationship with her gazillion dollar hedge fund manager husband Seth. This was not surprising, since she had a rocky relationship with the other three husbands she had before him, and by rocky I mean lots of police getting called to the house because she liked to hit them etc. etc., but she managed to hold it together with the help of a combination of Xanax, Vicodin, Ritalin, coke and hundred thousand dollar shopping sprees until one evening Seth was found dead in his pool and Filomena was fingered by her phone psychic as the killer. Did she cook a bottle of crushed-up Ambien into her husband’s vodka penne and tell him to go swim in the pool while she took the dog for a walk and returned to a $300 million inheritance? A lot of people seem to think she did. But not her lawyer Jay Jacknin! Oh yeah, and Jay Jacknin also happens to be her ex-husband, who introduced his then-wife to Seth (and says of Phyllis: “She had a great body. Women love her. Men find her fascinating. I just couldn’t afford her.”)

Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Can’t wait for the main event back here in Chicago on Friday.

    D. Rose will be back (fingers crossed.)

Some intra-state rivalry there. Noah was a key player on the Gators’ NCAA championship basketball teams in ’06 and ’07. There’s no love lost between University of Miami and the University of Florida.
