Here’s the latest update from Elon himself on preorders:
146k Cybertruck orders so far, with 42% choosing dual, 41% tri & 17% single motor

Here’s the quick math on it:
_____
I’m on the fence in regards to ordering one, as I’m sure many like myself are as well. I’m tempted to buy it as an investment and flip it once I have it in my possession. But, then maybe I get it and never want it to leave my possession. All time best launch for Tesla.
Wall Street got this wrong on Friday. Numbers have to go up. And, let’s not forget about the ATV:
While everyone is talking about #CYBRTRK, this #Tesla-made #ATV is completely out of general public’s focus. I was fortunate enough to capture it in motion. pic.twitter.com/LWgpcVEgum

How is this truck possibly an investment
When people can’t get them when they first come out, due to production constraints, people will start paying-up for one.
Demand will continue to pick up in my opinion. Should be a fun vehicle to drive.
Did Hummers ever go up in price back when they were trendy?
If there are already 146k peopel ahead of you, you won’t get yours until the truck is no longer trendy. Telsa Model 3 preorders were only about 3 years ago, and they don’t command a premium anymore.. On the other hand, the Model 3 has asimplistic design. I think probucks hummer analogy is close to the mark, so mayber the first 20,000 or so on the road will catch the eye, but after 100,000 forget it.
Also, I think the ATV has much more profit potential. It will likely be magnitudes less complex thatn their other vehicles (no autodrive, etc.), yet they can still command a premium based on the Tesla name.
Agree 100% on the ATV.
And, you are right, would have to be one of the very first ones in order to flip it. Likely not worth the hassle. Cool truck, but I won’t order one yet. Maybe 3rd gen.
Also, a correction to Musk’s tweet:
There are currently **zero** CyberTruck orders. There are 146k (now 250k) people that placed a $100, **refundable** deposit.
If it was a **non-refundable** deposit, then it would represent the floor of customer orders. However, given the extremely low threshold, this is Tesla “preoders” represents a *ceiling* of Tesla purchasers: just about every single person who even would consider buying one will place a deposit to reduce their potentail delivery time
