I would really like to quit calling this the New ETF Trading System. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Someone called it “Double Trouble.” Not bad, but I think everyone can do better.

How about “Woodchopper”? 🙂
Mmmmm, depending on when you post or expect readers to act, you could call it, “The Morning Wood.”
Too subtle?
2X WOOD
I think Pfizer might have the mark on that one.
Morning Wood is pretty damn good.

A friend of mine wears a ‘Camp Morning Wood’ shirt to work on occasion. A surprising few number of people have actually caught on to its meaning.
WOOD/BHH,
i am planning to get tradestation to develop strategy and test system. how much minimum account opening balance do they need. and they have some minimum purchase to get around there platform fee, how do you accomplish that.
thanks
lmao guys.
I actually tried something similar to Morning Wood, or Get More Wood, early in the iBC website history. It was to be a regular feature. I was shamed and given a “deboner” by my fellow bloggers.
Still, I think you are all on the right track.
2X Wood is subtle and clever. NETS is also getting close.
Bill, if you want to test on the portfolio level, you will need a lot more than tradestation. You can only run strategies over single equities. If you only want to trade the indexes, this may be okay. However, if you want to trade strategies across stocks, Tradestation will be inadequate.
If you are new to testing, I recommend something like Stockfetcher to get you started. SF will allow you to get a sense of what the coding is like. It will allow you to run many “proof of concept” type ideas.
As for Tradestation, I do not know their minimum requirement, nor am I sure how their current platform fees are structured. I pay 99 bucks a month if I don’t trade 5K shares in a month, but they are always running new specials to get you to sign up.
Times and attitudes have changed, Wood. Try this out:
Hard Times Call for the Right Tool.
Introducing The Morning Wood.
Bill, I just looked at your IP/email and realized who you are. I know you already have and are using Stockfetcher. Tradestation has a great platform for executing complicated orders and for backtesting across single equities. Just make sure there is not a better option for what you want to do. I think you’ll find it inadequate. Look into Amibroker, Traders Studio, and others. Do a lot of research.
Anton, that is fucking great…lmao…my wife and I are both cracking up. That might actually work…except I’ll be posting the signals in the evening.
You could go all Apple software and go with variations of Wood with each new system you create.
This new ETF thang seems to grow pretty fast, so you could call it
Big Bamboo.
The Big Bamboo…man, I think you’ve struck gold Anton!
Woody, you might want to confer with Missus Wood on this, but I’ve been told that it’s really never too early for a delivery of the morning wood.
The Stick.
This discussion reminds me of the beginning of Stripes when Bill Murray is trying to convince his girlfriend not to leave him:
“But I’m the little acorn that becomes the mighty oak!”
Didn’t work, of course. And ACORN went on to be a discredited acronym.
So…if the system quits working…then what’ll we call it?
Its not the system’s fault, it is just a Woodpecker market?
B- a peckerwood market….
I told you, you need to learn Window event methodology, test statistical significance of the window results, your experiments over here are silly and stupid, sorry for telling the truth.
Knowing the characters around here, if somebody loses a dime, even if they’re using the system wrong, you might as well call it, “The Gallows.”
mex,
I think urged you to post an explanation of your POV over in the PG.
Sniping from the sidelines doesn’t exactly speak well of your intellectual rigor.
that’s, I think Wood urged…
Speaking of intellectual rigor.
Woodpecker alert
Mexican, I have an audited, fully transparent account with Covestor, which is running 2 of the strategies. You might note that I’ve been fairly successful.
You, on the other hand, have nothing except a stupid-ass alias and a lot of misplaced anger and hatred.
Good day to you, sir.
B- again, that would be a peckerwood alert.
{Sound of a sad, lonely leaf blower fades into the distance…}
yes yes, i have to get that straight. perhaps I will have better luck in the morning.
lol @ B.
Alas, a bad week for that, what with the significant other traveling…
Woodshedder:
While I do not have a proposed nifty new name, I certainly want to see the nightly posts continue. Thanks for your work and efforts. I may or may not act on the information you provide but, I do include the information in my thinking.
4 more mornings. Mrs. B deicided to take a few extra days after her meetings to hang out in the sun on those damn palm tree shaped islands. I’m jealous.
Pinball, thanks. They will continue.
B- hop a train to Richmond. We’ll make the best of it.
Wait, I have 3 kids, and my wife is still in town…
Maybe I should hop the train!
lol. perhaps the the latter does sound a tad more appealing.
why not call it System 2 or some variation of that
triple positive karma for Anton, Shed and The Morning Wood. 🙂
Yay! Boca!
Was wondering when you’d stop by.
My favorite so far is the Big Bamboo System.
Buylo, c’mon. Why so practical and reasonable in a comments section filled with over-the-top nonsense?
Always appreciate a woman who appreciates the morning wood, Boca. Reciprocal karma right back at you. You get your karma first, of course.
Off to see if there’s another country I can move to before the election.
Night all.
The Big Bamboo was my 2nd choice.
Nite Anton, don’t forget the Kahlua in your milk.
Night Anton. See you in the morning.
Wood.
Ninja Trader allows free use of their software for strategy development and backtesting, as well as paper trading, but you need a brokerage account for historical and current data.

I am not angry.
I keep reading your posts because they make me laugh.
I have a good time reading your posts, watching you re-inventing the wheel and drawing stupid lines is funny. But if you dont want me to comment anything about your experiments let me know. I wont do it any more if you ask for it.
Mexican,
I’m not sure how I can be more clear. I am up on the year. You can track the success or failure of 2 of my strategies in my transparent Covestor account.
Feel free to keep commenting, because all you are doing is making it embarrassingly obvious that you have an axe to grind.
For some odd reason, you are fixated on event window methodology, and whether or not I’m testing systems with it. If you truly wanted to help, you would simply be helpful, not angry, condescending, and rude. Me thinks you doth protest too much.
But I’ll call your bluff. I am familiar with event window methodology, and it was used to test the entry of another system, but not this one. Would it make you feel better if I ran the same tests on the New ETF Trading System?
As for re-inventing the wheel…Last time I checked, there wasn’t anyone handing out profitable trading systems, for free. Furthermore, your logic is absolutely invalid. What does it matter if I re-invent a profitable system, as long as I profit from it?
I am waiting with baited-breath for your PG post where you elaborate on the specifics of your trading system(s). As it is quickly becoming apparent that you have nothing to offer, I fear should you not post something, anything, to lend credibility to yourself, then you are doomed to be dismissed as a bitter and hateful person.
By the way, how is Amsterdam?
This System Rocks!
