A Few Things

I’m headed down to city hall here in a few minutes, but I wanted to address a few things.

We’re starting to see a pattern form here. Buying opportunities in the morning, then off to the races in the afternoon. Though things do look a little different today, with the early morning spike, it still provides us with a buying opportunity. If you want some good long ideas, reference this post. The pops in Chinese solar today provide a great shorting opportunity, reference this post.

ZNGA is beaten down today. As I stated previously, and had a late night Twitter debate with @paulwoll about last night, I don’t think Pincus will sell ZNGA to YHOO. I also do not think that online gambling is going to change their business, it would only be a “quick fix.” I could, of course, be completely wrong.

If you’re bored with this stale market, check out my post on what it’s like to try and make it as a young entrepreneur in San Francisco, here. Something I forgot to mention in that post, is that surgeon boy was all upset that we got our place for “such a good deal.” We’ve lived here roughly 2.5 years, and found a gem; we have a private yard, in-unit laundry, and a dishwasher, in one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city. You have to understand that 99.9% of units lack all three of the aforementioned, and we also actually have a decent sized dining area. Today our place would fetch between $3750-4250 a month, we don’t pay quite that much, but surgeon boy was all mad that he had to focus on med school and couldn’t move when the time was right. Sounds like a personal problem to me.

  1. Nat King Cole, what a voice. And as I recall (I think), his guitar player was pretty good, too.

  2. Even though my wife’s nephew lives in SF, those of us elsewhere have a hard time relating… The home next to ours in central NJ, which is one of the most expensive East Coast areas outside of NYC – 5 BR, 3 1/2 BTH, 3 CG, worth about $900k, in one of the best school districts in the state – only rented for $5k/month. One hour commute to New York. If 4 bedrooms are enough, $3000/month gets you any number of nice homes. Of course the weather in SF is nicer than it is in NJ.
