In an early birthday present, silver was off the hook today. I did not sell AG at the high today, or at any price. Nor did I sell EXK, SLW, PAAS, SSRI, CDE, HL, MVG, or even AGQ or SLV.
I did not sell them Sam I am, I did not sell those blocks of HAM. Here’s why… the plan continues generate nice returns:
Meanwhile, when I see silver start to take a convincing turn like it did today, I want to be in my prime movers to take advantage – which have been EXK and AG this cycle. Of the two, while EXK had a slightly better day (at over 9%), it was AG (over 8.5%) that today moved above it’s 20 and 50-day EMA’s. EXK will likely do so tomorrow, as it experienced a similar move to AG on strong volume. The AG chart is extremely pretty right now…
And don’t get any ideas… SLW is still the king of my silver portfolio. However, these two are important for those of us who can be nimble with the trade finger. They should be played smaller, however, to accommodate their greater risk profile. My best to you.

Ok, still unable to post charts, though I did manage to post the text from Word into the thing. Still no word from Fleremy.

Looks like sisyphus to me. They say the eyes are the first to go with old age?
Yeah, now that you mention it, it does look like a guy pushing a boulder. But the shadows look like the sepels on a cotton boll.
I actually thought there was a woman at the bottom of the cotton stem and could not figure out what that was all about. Sexy cotton or something.
_________
Happy Birthday Jake.
Thanks Wife.

Jake,
Do you like the miners better than the agq’s or slv? where would you add more to silver trade..considering the move already, and the dollar stregth?
Thanks
alf
Just consider the miners to be pure leverage on the price of silver. They are either going to be lagging or leading in respect to silver… before the recent silver crash (thanks CBOE), the miners were laggards. Now they are moving ahead of the POS, which is a stronger “tell” for the price going forward than the reverse.
I think the miners have some room to run here, and you will get more bang for your buck from them than you will w. SLV. As far as AGQ goes, that’s double the volatility, so play small.

Apparently Mark Haines was a racehorse fan, ala Sen Gint.

R.I.P., Mark Haines, My Friend

What I most remembered about Mark was his strength of broadcasting during a crisis.
As most are aware, Mark Haines has passed away.
I have known Mark for about eight years, starting when I began to guest host Squawk Box with him, Joe and David in 2003.
A lot has been said this morning on CNBC about Mark — his broadcasting techniques and strengths, as well has his personal idiosyncrasies.
What I most remembered about Mark was his strength of broadcasting during a crisis — whether it was a financial, geopolitical or social crisis.
But today, I will write about something this morning that most don’t know — his hobby was betting on thoroughbred horses. And for many years, he was proud to tell me that he had computerized the entire Hialeah Racetrack’s meet.
His favorite page in the newspaper wasn’t the business section.
His favorite page was the racetrack entries at Aqueduct, Belmont, Saratoga, Gulfstream and Hialeah in the New York Post and Daily News. And, again, what few know, is that during commercial breaks he could be seen handicapping the horse races.
My fondest memory and funniest story about Mark Haines was about six years ago during a guest host gig I had on “Squawk Box.”
It was the week of The Hambletonian race at The Meadowlands racetrack (the harness racing equivalent of the Kentucky Derby).
Two days before I was on “Squawk,” CNBC taped a match race between Mark and myself at The Meadowlands.
Mark had never driven a standardbred but he loved the racetrack and said to me, “What the heck, I will take a shot.”
I had so much fun in that race. (I beat him by a nose!) And after we went over the finish line, I asked him did he have fun, too?
Mark’s reply: “Dougie, I would rather put a needle in my eye than do this again.”
That was Mark — ever so honest and truthful.
Sell AG or EXK today?
Happy Birthday Mr. Gint!
Happy Bday Senator! I hope you are doing something fun today!
Happy Birthday Jake!
I see the dollar is hovering below the 100 day sma (76.51) on the chart I configured on stockcharts.com with today’s low of 75.75 as area of support past 3 days (novice chart reader btw). Should be interesting to see which way it goes.
That 20-day smaon $USD is curling towards the 50 day sma, looking like it wants to cross it, which I think would be bullish for the dollar and not bullish for commodities.
Happy Birthday to you and Fly. All the best.
My PMs are going up so fast I am getting a nosebleed. I will probably cut back to my core position tomorrow and wait for another pullback. Better too early than too late and the dollar looks like it may have some momentum going for it, at least in the short term. I appreciate all the experience and knowledge that you share with everyone.
