Small Stocks for Small Plebs

Again I try to post for the second time this night. I am not making small talk when I say that if I cannot fix whatever prevents me from posting from my house, I will have to forego posting at all. Unlike the M. Le Docteur, I do not have the luxury of posting during the day, and sometimess I don’t even have the time to visit. If I cannot get this thing figured out, I will have to resign my post.

Fuck it. For the second time tonight I wrote a long post (below what was written above, and for the second time) and WordPress ate it.

Fleremy… I’m serious. I’m having trouble here, and giving serious consideration to bailing if this cannot be amended. My blood pressure cannot take it.

It’s like the site is toying w. me, big haired clown style.

Anyway, the gist of the aborted post was to take a shot at FAS tomorrow, probably in the late morning, and also that AAU was holding the 200 day nicely, and should find support there for a number of reasons.

And yes I had charts ready and everything, but WP would not save my stuff, and when I tried to save it, it just disappeared.

Jake, Please copy and paste the entire thing in clipboard (Select ALL and Ctrl-C) so you can dump it in word using Ctrl-V before performing any operation in wordpress. I know how frustrating it is to lose your thought just because some technical bullshit.

I am thinking of doing the entire thing in Word first and then just copy pasting it into the block and going it “takes.” only problem with that is it may screw up the embedded charts if I use them.

Microsoft “Word” understands all the image(.JPG etc.) formats. So I don’t think it will screw up your charts. Give it a try.

And may be you are running into a session timeout issue in wordpress. So by the time you are done writing, the session has already timed out and any click will throw you out of there. Just a guess.

Agreud. I don’t use WordPress but that sort of problem happens with a few other programs (webmail, for instance) where they time out if you take too long. Annoying as scheisser but I would bet that could be the answer to your problems.

Type it up in word, save it, copy n paste. Or if you don’t want to use word, type it up in WordPress, but before you hit “submit”, highlight the whole thing and copy it. If it disappears, just Control V that bitch back in. Show it who’s boss.

Aye, but there’s the rub… when it “ceases” or (better word) “converts” to the non-manipulable phase, I CANNOT EVEN HIGHLIGHT IT. It just stops being responsive. I see the words there, but I cannot do anything with them, and if I try to save, “poof! All your bullshit writing is gone!”

I think what people are getting at is: why are you editing directly within WordPress (i.e. your web browser) in the first place?

Author the material in Word, in Notepad, in vi or emacs, but do the authoring on your local machine, and only when it’s ready for publication, do the cut-and-paste into the web app.

Can I get you a cup of cawfee while I’m at it?

I’ve been “editing directly” in WordPress for years now, and have never had this problem.

                  Mea culpa!

Agreud, please do not leave us! As far as I’m concerned, you are THE go to source for any precious metal investing. I second the idea about writing in MS word first. At least you would still have the written segment of your posts. I know it sucks but it would be a lot easier to copy/paste and try again then lose everything and start over.

    Jake,

Have you tried clearing your browser’s cache and emptying your cookies?

    1.) close all browser windows.
2.) open 1 browser window and type “about:blank” in the url bar. (do not type the quotation marks.)
3.) If you are using internet exlporer..at the top of the browser window click on “tools” and scroll down to “internet options”
4.)In the window that comes up, the “general tab” should be highlighted.
5.) go to the middle of the “general tab” where it says “browsing history” and click on the “delete” button.
6.)In the window that pops up select every single check box and click delete at the bottom.
7.) your cookies, cache, stored passwords for your browser etc..will now be cleared.

If you have a different browser let me know.
post an email address where I can contact you.

Thanks, I ll try that. My new laptop has the “fingerprint” ID analyzer — will that all be scrubbed if I take the above measures? I’m assuming ill have to put back in all my old passwords.

        No problem.

        As to your questions,

No, Your fingerprint id will still be intact.

The only accounts and passwords that will be affected by doing the above are accounts and passwords that are for websites.

For instance..if you use twitter..you will have to re-enter your account and password at the twitter homepage.

Or facebook, gmail etc…because they are “web based applications.”

Any account or password that is operating system dependant will not be affected. (such as a fingerprint id.)

Only accounts and passwords that you use in a web browser.

        Hope it helps.

      Absolutely,

I would clean them in notepad as well.
Sometimes, not all the time, sometimes depending on how you use it, word will bring “hidden characters” into wordpress. WordPress may or may not be able to handle them depending on the wordpress setup.

A good process to use is.
1.) write post in word and save it somewhere on your computer.
2.) copy the post from word and paste it into notepad.
3.) copy from notepad and paste into wordpress.
4.) add images and links to your text in wordpress.
      5.) publish the post.

To open notepad, go to the start button, or the “windows button” at the lower left hand side of the screen.
In the box that says “run” or if windows 7…type notepad into the “search programs and files” box.

I ask you, is becoming a wordpress expert:

    1) one of your important goals for this year?

    2) the best use of your limited and valuable time?

If not, can you afford to delegate it to someone who dreams about 1’s & 0’s?

If so, why the fuck are you doing it?

      Because I don’t have a posting servant?

Seriously, I have not had this kind of trouble w WordPress in the past. Every now and then I’d be unable to post a vid or a graph, but never a time when the text just “stops recording” (this is the best way to describe it– I am typing and am able to navigate around my text and then suddenly the text “converts” to aaform where it is no longer manipulable, and worse, it is now not savable.)

I am just concerned this is some kind of Windows 7 “ghost in the machine” Windows incompatibility issue.

I seem to recall there is a “Preview” or some such function that only shows the first few lines of a post. It is possible that is what is happening to you. Check in the Dashboard if that is clicked. Sometimes those settings get changed when a new version comes out or … just because it is a computer and does dumb things. Best of luck.

As surplusdroids says, For monthly maintenance I used to manually perform those and a couple other tasks every on all machines to keep them running smoothly. About 5 yeears ago I started using CClean (aka Crap Clean) , it has made those tasks plus registry cleanup a simple single keystroke. I still perform Defrag (Qtrly now due to disk capacity), viral, spyware, etc, scan monthly. Have not had a problem attributed to CClean across multiple OS’s.

It’s CCleaner and be careful of it or anything else that goes through the registry. You shouldn’t’ have to resort to this in order to get WPress working. It’s like starting with an enema to treat a sniffle.

Jake, checkout Live Writer from MS:

It’s very easy to use (MS Word-like) and once set up, transmission from there to your actual blog is usually painless.

It works with a variety of blog hosting solutions. For WordPress, looks like you have to enable one item:
