Again I try to post for the second time this night. I am not making small talk when I say that if I cannot fix whatever prevents me from posting from my house, I will have to forego posting at all. Unlike the M. Le Docteur, I do not have the luxury of posting during the day, and sometimess I don’t even have the time to visit. If I cannot get this thing figured out, I will have to resign my post.
If you enjoy the content at iBankCoin, please follow us on Twitter
Fuck it. For the second time tonight I wrote a long post (below what was written above, and for the second time) and WordPress ate it.
Fleremy… I’m serious. I’m having trouble here, and giving serious consideration to bailing if this cannot be amended. My blood pressure cannot take it.
It’s like the site is toying w. me, big haired clown style.

Stop watching so much porn ! It’s clogging your computer.
I knew it was something!

Anyway, the gist of the aborted post was to take a shot at FAS tomorrow, probably in the late morning, and also that AAU was holding the 200 day nicely, and should find support there for a number of reasons.
And yes I had charts ready and everything, but WP would not save my stuff, and when I tried to save it, it just disappeared.
_____
Jake, Please copy and paste the entire thing in clipboard (Select ALL and Ctrl-C) so you can dump it in word using Ctrl-V before performing any operation in wordpress. I know how frustrating it is to lose your thought just because some technical bullshit.
I am thinking of doing the entire thing in Word first and then just copy pasting it into the block and going it “takes.” only problem with that is it may screw up the embedded charts if I use them.
__
Microsoft “Word” understands all the image(.JPG etc.) formats. So I don’t think it will screw up your charts. Give it a try.
And may be you are running into a session timeout issue in wordpress. So by the time you are done writing, the session has already timed out and any click will throw you out of there. Just a guess.
Agreud. I don’t use WordPress but that sort of problem happens with a few other programs (webmail, for instance) where they time out if you take too long. Annoying as scheisser but I would bet that could be the answer to your problems.
Type it up in word, save it, copy n paste. Or if you don’t want to use word, type it up in WordPress, but before you hit “submit”, highlight the whole thing and copy it. If it disappears, just Control V that bitch back in. Show it who’s boss.
Aye, but there’s the rub… when it “ceases” or (better word) “converts” to the non-manipulable phase, I CANNOT EVEN HIGHLIGHT IT. It just stops being responsive. I see the words there, but I cannot do anything with them, and if I try to save, “poof! All your bullshit writing is gone!”
_________
I think what people are getting at is: why are you editing directly within WordPress (i.e. your web browser) in the first place?
Author the material in Word, in Notepad, in vi or emacs, but do the authoring on your local machine, and only when it’s ready for publication, do the cut-and-paste into the web app.
Can I get you a cup of cawfee while I’m at it?
I’ve been “editing directly” in WordPress for years now, and have never had this problem.
Mea culpa!
____
If that’s true, it’s because the times have been drastically shortened… as I don’t take any longer than I ever have to put up a post…
________
Sending good ju-ju sir, sorry for your wordpress gremlins…
We Need you…do not abandon us…FLY…help him!!!
Why not write it up in Word save to PDF and send to Jeremy for posting?
See above. That’s fine for a temp solution, but that’s also an unnecessary hassle for all.
__
BEWARE YOUR PLUMBING AND HARDWOOD FLOORS!
What the french toast?
iBC doesn’t have a staff of coked-out IT nerds to handle this?
Don’t you dare bail! Jeremy quick son quick!
Agreud, please do not leave us! As far as I’m concerned, you are THE go to source for any precious metal investing. I second the idea about writing in MS word first. At least you would still have the written segment of your posts. I know it sucks but it would be a lot easier to copy/paste and try again then lose everything and start over.
XG is poppin’.
Fuck don’t quit senator, I could use a dose of your commentary maligning liberals. I had to watch that asshat from the New York Times Andrew Ross Sorkins movie tonight to Big to Fail!
Jake we count on you, if possible could you try to hang in there until this can be solved. I know you have to be so frustrated with all the work you put into your posts then poof it’s gone. Thank you for posting what you could. It’s appreciated beyond words.
Jeremy is busy dealing with his baseball card collection and/or dealing with less than ideal patina on his bronze statues than help us writers out.
Jake
I sent an urgent email to Lord Jeremy. Let’s hope he considers my note to be worthwhile of his time.
It’s time you people realize you work for Jeremy
Its like that old SNL bit with Jimmy Fallon as the scornful IT guy:
“Get out of the way! Move, move, MOVE!”
__
The hell with us, Jake, your well-being is WAY more important than posting here. You’ve been struggling for sever days now without resolution to your technical difficulties. As much as I respect and enjoy reading your ananlysis, you have a family and job that comes first so I would surely understand your quitting. Good luck! Jeremy may in fact already be troubleshooting the problem as we speak.
no fuckin way.take that pos and throw it up against the wall 3 times, then go out and get another machine, and find another avenue in which to post, fuck word press. nothing more frustrating than a company using a mechanism that wont work.
Say it ain’t so, Jake….. say it ain’t so!
Jake,
Have you tried clearing your browser’s cache and emptying your cookies?
1.) close all browser windows.
2.) open 1 browser window and type “about:blank” in the url bar. (do not type the quotation marks.)
3.) If you are using internet exlporer..at the top of the browser window click on “tools” and scroll down to “internet options”
4.)In the window that comes up, the “general tab” should be highlighted.
5.) go to the middle of the “general tab” where it says “browsing history” and click on the “delete” button.
6.)In the window that pops up select every single check box and click delete at the bottom.
7.) your cookies, cache, stored passwords for your browser etc..will now be cleared.
If you have a different browser let me know.
post an email address where I can contact you.

Thanks, I ll try that. My new laptop has the “fingerprint” ID analyzer — will that all be scrubbed if I take the above measures? I’m assuming ill have to put back in all my old passwords.
__
No problem.
As to your questions,
No, Your fingerprint id will still be intact.
The only accounts and passwords that will be affected by doing the above are accounts and passwords that are for websites.
For instance..if you use twitter..you will have to re-enter your account and password at the twitter homepage.
Or facebook, gmail etc…because they are “web based applications.”
Any account or password that is operating system dependant will not be affected. (such as a fingerprint id.)
Only accounts and passwords that you use in a web browser.
Hope it helps.
Thanks, most of those are stored in the fingerprint ID thingy anyway.
_____
I’m thinking ’bout getting me ID laser thing. Maybe thaaat’s the issue??? Should I stay away? Is it new, etc.?
Write your posts in Word first and save them. Then copy them over. That’ll at least save you from the posts getting destroyed.
The Jake,
We’ve all been there.
Good advice from Mr. Thaler.
Absolutely,
I would clean them in notepad as well.
Sometimes, not all the time, sometimes depending on how you use it, word will bring “hidden characters” into wordpress. WordPress may or may not be able to handle them depending on the wordpress setup.
A good process to use is.
1.) write post in word and save it somewhere on your computer.
2.) copy the post from word and paste it into notepad.
3.) copy from notepad and paste into wordpress.
4.) add images and links to your text in wordpress.
5.) publish the post.
To open notepad, go to the start button, or the “windows button” at the lower left hand side of the screen.
In the box that says “run” or if windows 7…type notepad into the “search programs and files” box.
I ask you, is becoming a wordpress expert:
1) one of your important goals for this year?
2) the best use of your limited and valuable time?
If not, can you afford to delegate it to someone who dreams about 1’s & 0’s?
If so, why the fuck are you doing it?
Because I don’t have a posting servant?
Seriously, I have not had this kind of trouble w WordPress in the past. Every now and then I’d be unable to post a vid or a graph, but never a time when the text just “stops recording” (this is the best way to describe it– I am typing and am able to navigate around my text and then suddenly the text “converts” to aaform where it is no longer manipulable, and worse, it is now not savable.)
I am just concerned this is some kind of Windows 7 “ghost in the machine” Windows incompatibility issue.
___
PICNIC?
(Problem In Chair, Not In Computer)
I seem to recall there is a “Preview” or some such function that only shows the first few lines of a post. It is possible that is what is happening to you. Check in the Dashboard if that is clicked. Sometimes those settings get changed when a new version comes out or … just because it is a computer and does dumb things. Best of luck.
As surplusdroids says, For monthly maintenance I used to manually perform those and a couple other tasks every on all machines to keep them running smoothly. About 5 yeears ago I started using CClean (aka Crap Clean) , it has made those tasks plus registry cleanup a simple single keystroke. I still perform Defrag (Qtrly now due to disk capacity), viral, spyware, etc, scan monthly. Have not had a problem attributed to CClean across multiple OS’s.
Thanks, I will look into CClean.
_____
It’s CCleaner and be careful of it or anything else that goes through the registry. You shouldn’t’ have to resort to this in order to get WPress working. It’s like starting with an enema to treat a sniffle.
Jake- your frustration is completely understandable, and I hope the technical issues are worked out so you can continue posting with ease. I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 and it is a learning experience. I think running older systems eventually becomes more aggravating than a new one, part of the plan.
WHAT?!?
Don’t even think about quitting
Maybe you just need what I’ve been telling you to get for the past 15 years.

Yeah, there’s only 18M hits for “WordPress problems on Mac”. So you’re right, buying a MBP is definitely going to solve it.
/sarcasm
And let me be the first…Happy Birthday JG!
“You’re my fella.”
Jake, checkout Live Writer from MS:
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials?os=other
It’s very easy to use (MS Word-like) and once set up, transmission from there to your actual blog is usually painless.
It works with a variety of blog hosting solutions. For WordPress, looks like you have to enable one item:
