Not my Yanks, that’s for sure

Drawdown days are a bitch, I don’t care how well hedged you are. Some of my positions took 7 and even 8% haircuts today, but mostly that was the small ones. The bigger ones were hedged, so the bleeding was not entirely egregious. I was almost entirely out of my AGQ with only 400 shares left, so that was not a horrible caining I took even in that double slammer today, given I formerly owned 3k shares.
Word to the wise, the $HUI index is oversold already on the deep dive it did today, so I would not dwell long in the land of shorting this gold bull. You are far more likely to receive profitable thrills by waving your junk at a basket filled with hungry ferrets.
Of all the single precious issues out there, I like IVN and GSS to rebound first. Don’t ask me why, just attend to my Spider Senses. I also like almost precious REE, if it ever comes back down to earth again.
In the non-metals world, I still love the Trannies and their strength here, relative to the scaredy cat sell off. I especially love UPS, and you should look to add to this core holding if it can dip just a little below to it’s 50-day EMA at $66.60 or so:
RGLD is another core hold you should be looking to glom here. I will be adding to it, to ANV and to SLW very shortly.
Watch the dollah! More tomorrah!

Love your posts, man.
Our yanks & phils are trailing — but fear not as they are the 2nd and 1st best teams in the MLB, respectively… 😛
I am rooting for the formerly New York Giants, as I have uncles out there in Marin who would die for them. They were fans of the original team back when they were still in NY, and they followed them out there, about 20 years later.
Hard to root for Philly teams. No disrespect to you, but many of their fans are pure animals. I’ve had some bad experiences with Eagle thugs.
__________
Yes, we have a bad rep. But honestly– Roy Halladay needs a ‘ship. I will say, though, that if the Phils don’t take it down then I am definitely rooting for Cliff Lee and tha Ranguhs
That Lee is a ma-cheen. How did the Philthies let him go??
_________
We weren’t going to be able to sign him again, and we had a choice of Halladay for multiple years or Lee for 1 :/
I love Cliff Lee – all around great guy and like you said, a ma-cheen. Hope he wins it if the Phils can’t.
He will look good in royal pinstripes. 😉

I’m seeing red socks ….
I’ve been keeping FDX and UPS on my watchlist since September 29 and October 4, respectively. Those two days are when each company announced rate increases. UPS raised freight rates in North America 5.6% effective this past Monday and FDX is raising (different % for different types) effective Nov 1, 2010. I’m waiting for the market to drag FDX down now as it seems a little better from a valuation perspective.
I am chagrined because I was not able to flip the gold coin I had posted at a high price.
Illiquidity is a risk factor for fizzical, that’s for sure.
___________
Just standing by with cash set aside for your calls over the coming days/weeks. Don’t even want to imagine
what it would be like to try to figure out entry and exits on the pms/& the almost pms without your blog (and posts in PPT). Did exit my GLD before we got to 1370ish area thanks to your heads up. as always, thank you for taking time to do this blog.
Just a few things: 1) I bought a truly tiny, tiny bit of EGO on your recommendation long ago. Even after today, it’s up 80%. Thanks. 2) I’ve owned UPS for such a long time, it might finally deliver a dollar or two. 3) Is this some great pitching or what? 4) Phuck the phillies.
UPS is a great long term hold. Franchise value alone justifies holding it for the grandkiddies.
Tough to compete with long term entrenched reliability.
I must confess I have not been watching the Nat’l League playoffs… been too depressed watching my Yanks.
_______
Jake did you get a chance to pick up some REE before the lift off?
I did NOT.
Dammit.
__________
I picked up a half position on Friday after someone in the PPT was discussing a rare earth company in Canada. I checked the chart, and since it had consolidated nicely after the last run up, pulled the trigger. It seemed like a low risk entry. I would have been happy with a point or two. It’s up over 70% since Friday.
If it weren’t for someone in the PPT mentioning RE’s in general, I never would have checked the chart. The funny part is, I’ve got a stable of stocks that were “lucky” picks based on subscribing to PPT. I the past I would have checked the chart AFTER the run up.
I remember you buying it right after I said I was thinking of making it a Jacksonian. I thought to myself: “I think he’s a bit premature.”
Dammit.
_______
Jake, what’s your target for reloading the AGQ?
You can never tell where AGQ is going to go, so I’ll just wait on a dollar turn.
_______
Just received my health insurance premium increase notice.
It is going up about 15% on my high deductible ($10,000) policy.
Wait a minute.
Didn’t Obama say something else?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLtqkRNraNk&feature=player_embedded
Isn’t that a joke? And on a $10k deductable, too… just imagine what the regular plans are going to have to go to.
They saw this coming, and are hoping to shaft us with universal mediocrity so they can control even more votes.
Revolt!
_________
And I thought that I was the only one that thought that the Phillys really suck.
I was tempted to get REE at 7 for a first buy, I did not.
