And the Winner Is…

bubba-watson-masters-2013

A big congratulations to multiple “Name That Chart” winner, “KenMora” for correctly guessing the mystery chart from my last post.

As Ken noted, the chart a multi-year view of CMP, the rock salt, minerals play.

Specifically, here is what Ken had to say:

Compass Minerals, CMP.
Minerals/mining
Going to move higher through the winter.

I tend to agree with Ken that this is a long idea, logically based on the heavy snow in many parts of the country this winter, as well as the decent technicals.

What do you think?

Thank you to everyone who played.

I will be back later with ideas for Tuesday.

But I already gave tight analysis in my latest Weekly Strategy Session published, earlier today. Check it out!

Name That Chart

casino0242

Hint this week: This chart dates back to 2007.

Try to guess:

  1. The ticker symbol of the chart;
  2. The sector in which the stock trades; and
  3. Whether or not you think the stock will move higher or lower throughout the end of the winter months.

Thank you to everyone who has been playing along.

The Rise and Fall of Stu Ungar

Stu_Unger-Winnings_Enlarged

I present to you a Saturday morning documentary about one of the most talented poker players ever to live, Stu Ungar. The takeaway lesson from Ungar’s life, though, is that no matter how talented you may be if you do not practice discipline and fail to grow and learn from your mistakes, you are destined for trouble.

As you watch the documentary, try to apply the story, its lessons and concepts, to trading the markets.

Would Natural Gas Hurt if You Dropped it on Your Foot?

dennis-gartman

Amid the frenzy in precious metals and miners today, do not forget other commodities such as coffee, corn, and natural gas, all still firming up headed into next week.

On the weekly chart of the natural gas ETF, you are looking to see if $24 now is clearly left in the dust. If so, I expect the breakout to just be getting started here, with a move into the $30’s within shot by the spring.

The thinly-traded cotton ETN, BAL, is also noteworthy.
