Wisconsin GOP Has Big Balls – Passes Bill to Reduce Collective Bargaining

Tonight the Wisconsin GOP amended the budget bill to remove the provision that appropriates funds. In doing this, the bill as amended was no longer subject to the same rules as a budget bill. This allowed the Senate to vote on the bill without a quorum. And vote they did, 18-1.

Over the past several days Governor Walker attempted to negotiate with the fleebagging Democrats, but to no avail. Governor Walker published the emails of the negotiations, which clearly showed the Democrats to be intransigent. Of course, had the Democrats not fled the state, emails would have not been necessary.

Governor Walker and the Wisconsin GOP have successfully ended major collective bargaining provisions in a state known to be a union stronghold. Moreover, as Wisconsin is widely viewed to be the state that birthed the modern Progressive movement, this vote represents a historic defeat to unions and Progressives alike.

Look for liberals to fume and spew vicious irony about the death of democracy over the coming days. Watch as the “new civility”, birthed from the Giffords tragedy, goes down in flames as unions and Progressives demonstrate over the GOP exercising the rights given to them by the electorate.

The truth is that this has nothing to do with the teachers or worker’s rights. The truth is that this defeat severely damages the ability of the unions to collect dues. With over 95% of union political contributions going to Democrats, the vicious cycle of the unions extorting tax-payer dollars and then using the money to elect Democrats to ensure continued extortion, is finished.

“Look for liberals to fume and spew vicious irony about the death of democracy over the coming days” and “extortion-elections”, spot, trucking on accuracy. Great post.

There are already reports of broken windows and doors at the Capitol, and no security whatsoever. This could get ugly. Lets see how much “tolerance” and “civility” is demonstrated, and by whom.

If you like this, you’ll like your 12 year old grandkids working for $2 hour twenty years from now.

Yeah, sure. 24 other states have fewer collective bargaining rights than Wisconsin will now have. Plus, Federal works have no collective bargaining rights.
Private sector union membership has been dropping for over 20 years, and is now less than 7%.
          Good try- fail.

Don’t you know? Public sector unions not having the ability to buy their own employers to extort taxpayer funds will automatically translate to the return of indentured servitude!

This is your basic leftwing “logic.”

    This is a glorious victory.

“this defeat severely damages the ability of the unions to collect dues. With over 95% of union political contributions going to Democrats, the vicious cycle of the unions extorting tax-payer dollars and then using the money to elect Democrats to ensure continued extortion, is finished.”

So true. I also believe the leftists will do whatever they can to protect their meal ticket to power. So goes the unions, so goes their political base. It is going to get ugly by a vocal and vicious minority. The good thing is that the public will (hopefully) finally see them for what they are.

This is correct in the short term. However, expect a recall vote for Walker. 1/2 the number of voters from the election is required for a recall. About 1/5 are at the Capitol as we speak. Many have already signed petitions (ex: http://scottwalkerwatch.com/).

I don’t really care one way or the other – but the back and forth politics never seems to accomplish anything.

Walker cannot be recalled right now. He has not been in office for a year. The law is they must have been in office for a year before a recall cannot happen. Keep in mind there are 16 recalls happening- 8 for Dems and 8 for Repubs.

Back and forth politics? Are you kidding me? There is no back and forth. The GOP just accomplished a historic defeat.

I’m late to the party on this, but like 1/2 of the 1/5 are from out of state, and don’t have the legal right to recall anybody in Wisconsin.

One interesting part of the bill is that it restricts the ability for municipalities to increase taxes locally if they wish. This is often overshadowed by the collective bargaining issue.

So if a local government wants to raise taxes to offset the cuts elsewhere, they are unable to. Not sure if this has been done anywhere before, but it is an interesting trend if it holds.

Nah i guess its just easier to spread political right wing bs and just charge the patsies for the greatest trading system in the history of mankind.

jt, all the history is on the Power Dip site. It is all laid out there, by year, by month, with all the relevant statistics. It has been on there for as long as the system has been available. Its not like this is a big secret. And you are free to access the PDS site simply by taking the trial.

Republican¬s began the dismantlin¬g of the middle class under Reagan 30 years ago. They use to be clandestin¬e and keep their motives and true agenda hidden by wedge issues. This time, they oversteppe-d and overreache¬d. They lied to people so they could get elected and then, as evidenced by Scott Walker, showed us what their real intent is. Dismantlin¬g the unions is just the last step in them giving complete control to corporatio¬ns. Americans are the best! They have finally seen what these schemers are up to and are marching against them and for Democracy.

Will likely end up in the courts as the way they passed it violated the open meeting law. Will be interesting to watch.

Pro tip: people don’t come to this site for your garden-variety, boring political hackery. I identify with libertarian ideas myself, but I never find your political posts anything but annoying.

The toy system tests are okay, but not worth watching you indulge in airing your unoriginal opinions. A disciplined trader has at least enough self-control to keep politics out of trading. You cost yourself at least this reader. Best of luck in the future.

Eric, this is a NEWS story.
If you do not want to read anything about politics, then do not click on a link with a headline that is obviously about something political.
As for me being disciplined, posting a NEWS story has absolutely nothing to do with my trading, system trading, or self-control.
Good day to you as well.

Wow, beat me to it by hours. (laughter) That’ll teach me for sleeping.

This is hilarious, listening to the Senate Democrats (who were holding the entire process up) bitch about how corrupt the Republicans supposedly are.

They might have big balls, but they also broke the law by breaking
    the Open Meeting Law.
    http://www.wisfoic.org/an-openmeetingslaw.html

In January of 2011, the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal bureau,
which is the equivalent to the Congressional Budget Office, sent a memo
to legislators telling them that the state will end the year with a projected
surplus of $121.4 million. Around the same time, Walker decided
to spend $140 million for special interest groups, and therefore
    eliminating the projected surplus.
    http://legis.wisconsin.gov/lfb/Misc/2011_01_31Vos&Darling.pdf

It was supposed to be a budget repair bill, because that was the alarm
Walker originally sounded. But what passed, was the original bill
with just the union busting components. Scott Fitzgerald was the only one
that had the balls to say what the real intent was. And, that it has
nothing to do with the budget and was purely political, as he mentioned
    in a Fox news interview.

You’re right. The vast majority of union contributions go to Democrats.
So what? The vast majority of corporate contributions go to Republicans.
What’s the point? Ahh…weaken the union and therefore weaken the Democrats.
That is pure politics and has nothing to do with being fiscally responsible.

With regard to your response to Eric. Yes, it is a news story, but people
come to your blog for your insightful analysis of the market. Natalie Holloway
and the “run-away bride” were also news stories, but we wouldn’t expect them
    on CNBC or Bloomberg.
