I went to Best Buy today and purchased an Insignia model NS-BRHTIB Blue-Ray Disc Player and Home Theatre System. It was on sale, and the audio sounded good in the store. I have been operating with a 5 year old DVD player and awful sounding AKAI home theatre system, so it was time to upgrade.
So what is the problem?
After tearing down my old system, and setting up the new system, which took a couple of hours, THE SON OF A %@#$! DOES NOT WORK.
To be clear, I can access the menu on the Insignia, adjust settings, etc., and my HD TV recognizes the Insignia via the HDMI input, but when I press play, I get audio, and no video.
I went to the Insignia website, downloaded the firmware, and updated the disc player. It didn’t make any difference.
I then called Insignia customer support. While they were very friendly, in less than 5 minutes, they had determined that I should just take it back to Best Buy and exchange it for another Insignia product, or get my money back. Clearly, this is a known issue with this model. In fact, on Insignia’s own site, there are several reports in February of this problem with this model. Insignia’s solution? Take it back.
So I’m about to spend another couple hours breaking this SON OF A #$%@! down and putting it back in the box to take back to Best Buy tomorrow. I’ll have about 6 hours total involvement in trying to get this piece of crap to work.
Please forgive me for not posting another installment tonight on the ETF Rotational System. I’ve wasted my blogging/researching time on this PIECE OF CRAP INSIGNIA product.

May you have a plumbing issue that requires outfitting of your house with new furniture.
No, wait, you’ve already experienced that.
For my part, I find the Fly’s comment’s unecesarrily hurtful.
Have you seen pics of the young Whale Rider yet?
_________
Yes, I have. You know my 8 year old is also a whale rider.
Elitist
Did you try plugging it in?
A pie in your face will be the least of your worries.
The dvd was made for your northern masters, which is why it cannot work in “your parts”
Your army fatigue sweatpants do not scare me
Neither does your Ed Hardy gear and custom fashioned anklet, a la Treu.
Anklet for the WIN!!

I have my best sound system ever now. It’s Yamaha receiver and British made Monitor speakers. Together they sound beautifully for movies and for any type of music you like. Don’t have a blue ray DVD so cannot comment on that.
Yeah, I save the reference monitors for the recording studio. I just wanted something that sounded decent, and PLAYED F_ING DVDs.
Anyway, Ruschem, your recent comments on the earlier post were great and really got me thinking. Unfortunately I’m still packing up this piece of crap and don’t have time to remark.
I’ve got a Yamaha receiver too, love it and some older polk audio floor standing speakers, rear and mid are bose. I think my Yamaha is the best receiver under $1k.
Dude, Goodwill has tons of DVD players, speakers, etc. I can hook you up for like, $8.
Say the word, and a care package is coming to you.
Oh, the only drawback is everything smells like cats.

lol Boomer…I’m budget conscious, but I’m not ready for dumpster diving at the Goodwill.
I bet you had to return the Blu-Ray discs too because they got scratched up when you placed the needle down on them.
ROFL.

“Insignia”? What, $200 for a Panasonic was too much for you?
Goldbug, it was a dvd/blueray/home theatre in a box.
Costco and BJ’s both sell an excellent Sony Blu-Ray player for $130 and has an especially useful LIGHTED remote. Model BDPBX2
Went with the Sony. Listening right now. It sounds FANTASTIC. And Best Buy let me return the Insignia with no hassle.
Wood,
Are you trading ETF system, when do you plan to trade it.
Do you plan to test is for shorter time frame. Also if the close is less than 50 day ma on SPY do you stop out next day. In that case how would performance be hit.
thanks
Bill
Bill, not trading the ETF system. Still just trying out some different things. Ultimately, I hope to get a tradeable system out of it, but its a ways away from that right now.
You are talking about the Fidelity Select System, I think, with the 50 day average. No, you don’t stop out the next day if it closes beneath the average. You would have to wait until the position had been held for 30 days. If then it is still beneath the 50, you rotate out of the position and into cash.
All of that was included in the backtesting there in the Fidelity Select series of posts.
